| Many parents seem way too involved and reactive. |
How do we know this? |
I sure hope you are not a MCPS employee. Your bias that a disability diagnosis can be bought is pure idiocy. Most parents go to their school IEP team first and ask for MCPS to evaluate their child. Most MCPS school psychologists only have a Master’s degree with a certificate. The educational testing is often done by the school’s Resource Teacher Special Education - this person at most has a Master’s degree in Special Education. A private evaluation is done by an expert with a PhD. That’s what is required to do the evaluations outside of a public school setting. No one risks their professional standing and reputation by creating a diagnosis that doesn’t exist. The person with a PhD would be more of an expert and more thorough than the MCPS staff who do school evaluations. |
I feel sorry for you. Your life must suck |
I feel sorry that you think throwing insults on an anonymous forum makes MCPS appear to be ethical. |
Answer depends on who you ask. There are some groups who really enjoy all the benefits of lower standards, lottery and other support programs. If you belong to highly abled kids or special needs kids, the answer you will get is a astounding no. |
Did you all find that $600,000 the transportation director walked off with? |
|
MCPS routinely denies students an evaluation for disabilities when a private evaluation identified a disability. It’s a system designed to ignore problems students are having with accessing the curriculum and basic skills. Staff pass students from grade to grade without addressing student needs. Even when a child has a 504 plan or IEP, schools spend hours at meetings just to not follow through with implementation.
Telling lies of omission, ignoring the data for the child, and failing to implement 504 plans and IEPs are all examples of unethical practices by MCPS. |
No, I'm actually disabled. |
With the 300% increase over the past decade in these private diagnoses that anyone can buy for $5k to $10k it isn't really surprising. |
I love saying this on anonymous boards too! I can make these wild assertions without any evidence and it furthers my political goal of sewing grievance fostering the right-wing base. |
Yes, tons of cultural warriors here trying to stir things up. Putin must love it! |
How illogical! Maybe your kid is in the only school MCPS cares about - Blair Magnet — but you would definitely be in with the football players at Blair. My life is great - just on a mission to tell the truth about your school system! |
And who do you think has $5K to $10K to pay for a “fake” evaluation? MCPS labeled my child with the wrong disability which was corrected when I had him fully evaluated by a PhD neuropsychologist. Worth the money to have a road map for his needs. We used the private evaluation to fix his IEP which the school didn’t implement. The only value of the private evaluation was to guide us to pay for private services because that’s what my child needed when the IEP was not implemented. |
