Does MCPS treat staff, parents, and students fairly and ethically?

It struggles in the gifted and special needs department, sometimes.

^ but does a better job than MOST public school systems in the nation. It's just disappointing when the best system can't quite get it together...

For students with disabilities:

1) it’s unethical to write 504 plans & IEPs just to not implement the plans

2) it’s unethical to repeatedly violate state laws for IEP meetings and not provide all documents to be discussed 5 days before the IEP meeting or give a summary of a report the IEP team doesn’t have access to

3) it’s unethical to not properly disclose MCPS has attorneys attending a meeting and the lack of representation for a student

4) it’s unethical for MCPS to promise compensatory services but never follow through with the services

5) it’s unethical for school administrators to meet with the 504 / IEP team before parents are invited in so the decisions are made before the meeting is even started.

6) it’s unethical to withhold parental access to educational records.

Yep. MCPS is pretty unethical in how it treats students with disabilities.

The magnet program lottery shows how MCPS manipulates with a lack of transparency. All students deserve access to enriching and challenging curriculum. It shouldn’t be a quota or luck to have the opportunity.

It's hard to implement them with the 300% increase in IEP/504s in the last few years at UMC schools.

That would make the CATO posters happy. They hate public funds going to ordinary people and would prefer the every man and woman for themselves approach.

So if a challenging kindergarten curriculum for your kindergarten kid assumes kids have been reading for at least a year means that my kid, who does not know his letters, must struggle and not learn? My kid needs the opportunity to learn at the appropriate level just as the high performers do.

When a school does not implement a 504 plan or an IEP after a school team writes the document that is discrimination. MCPS has a legal responsibility to implement the 504 Plans and IEPs.

this. Kids should stay in their home schools and have enrichment there.

Is it any wonder why teachers are leaving MCPS in record numbers?

both these kids in your example should be taught at their own level in their home school.
