^ but does a better job than MOST public school systems in the nation. It's just disappointing when the best system can't quite get it together...
False. What ethically system pays 11 million in outside counsel to fight the families of children who just want their IEP implemented. (2017 figures from MCPS) We were in four systems for my dyslexic — 3 public and one private). MCPS was by a long mile the least ethical and the most scammy. Comes down to culture I think.
A place where wealthy families also spend millions on private diagnoses for imaginary ailments?
I sure hope you are not a MCPS employee. Your bias that a disability diagnosis can be bought is pure idiocy. Most parents go to their school IEP team first and ask for MCPS to evaluate their child. Most MCPS school psychologists only have a Master’s degree with a certificate. The educational testing is often done by the school’s Resource Teacher Special Education - this person at most has a Master’s degree in Special Education. A private evaluation is done by an expert with a PhD. That’s what is required to do the evaluations outside of a public school setting. No one risks their professional standing and reputation by creating a diagnosis that doesn’t exist. The person with a PhD would be more of an expert and more thorough than the MCPS staff who do school evaluations.
No, I'm actually disabled.
