States aren't willing to fund higher education. California is one of the few that is. |
There’s more than UVA in Virginia, so I’m not sure why people are so pissed off. There’s plenty of other public colleges and universities to choose from in Virginia. There are 39 public colleges and universities in Virginia - popular schools like Virginia Tech, George Mason University and James Madison University. |
Because although UVA rejected my kid, Michigan and USC accepted them. Why would I send them to GMU etc? |
...William & Mary |
Did they get into William & Mary? |
You'd be surprised - I think there are many cultural differences between the states. My DD grew up here in DC and attends UCLA. Growing up in DC, many of our kids are very interested and well-versed in politics and what's going on in the world. DD was surprised to find that most California kids that she has met could care less about politics and world affairs. She was also shocked to meet so many kids who have don't have a passport or traveled outside the country, but have never even left the state of California and have no idea what life is like anywhere else. And these are UMC students - not first gens. She didn't expect that at a place like UCLA. |
You don't think there is a difference between people from the Midwest, Southeast and the West coast? Why do you think these regions are so different politically, socially and culturally, if it's not the people? |

| State schools get a ton of federal money. We all pay for your in-state school and it’s a lot harder for our kids to get in. |
You don’t know how competitive GMu has become. The median enrolled students has a weighted 4.0. |

Guess my daughter took the spot of an instate student, when she went out of state. Out of state was a better fit for her.
Same in reverse for the out of state student who came here. Win-Win |
Did not apply to W&M. Not interested. |
| Judging by the numbers of OOS parents posting on the VT 2026 page, I'm feeling very grateful that my in-state DC was accepted. Kids are coming from literally all over the country to attend VT. |
+1 Lots of posts from foreign families whose kids will be attending too. |
Hmm |
