Areas in Maryland with gangs?

Apologies if I offended anyone, just trying to find the safest place I can for my family that we can afford. If there’s an increased chance for stray bullets in certain places I’d feel more comfortable not living there.

I have numerous friends who have lived in Silver Spring and Rockville for decades and not once have they experienced “stray bullets”.

But why put oneself in that position? Proximity increases the chances. OP can choose the best neighborhood, school, and environment for her family. Don’t let anyone bully you into thinking you owe anyone to unsee and I know what’s obvious just to smooth their ruffled feathers. It’s good you asked and don’t be naive. If it’s like this today, which way is that neighborhood trending?

As someone who went to a HS that had actual gangs, of course, I wouldn't want to live in an area with gang activity, but I'm just wondering what proof there is of gang activity in some of these cities.

Look up local news. They busted a major cartel in VA and it was underreported nationally. Google the area to exhaustion of the results. Check local papers and crime stats. Google drag racing and ATVs and the area

First of all, drag racing is not indicative of gang activity. I'm not sure why you would think that. Did you watch too much Fast and Furious?

I look at the local news, and while there is crime everywhere, that doesn't mean ALL crime is related to gang activity.

So, I'll ask again... where exactly are we seeing gang activity? I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I'm asking specifically where the gang activity is taking place.

Who the f would want to leave around any of that stuff? I don’t. Already you see people saying don’t buy that house, noise from drag racing is too much etc (Arlington, true story). Why risk your peace, happiness and property resale? It’s gross annoying and dangerous

My friend lives in a million dollar home in the crunchy a$$ part of Takoma Park. A stray bullet entered her home through her wall and ended up 2 inches over her headboard. This is an America problem. I live in Silver Spring and haven't noticed any type of gang activity. Perhaps if you told us your price range and must haves, we can give suggestions.

Maryland will always have gangs that's why it's called murdaland.
Your friend buying her home that is overpriced for gentrification won't mitigate that issue.

Says someone who’s probably never lived in — or even visited — either.
Yet another “innocently “ questioning post that purports to be useful but that actseves to denigrate the area, without actually having to provide any specific information. How Carlsonian!

Ridiculous. You won’t shame me into not looking up where I want to live.

Top google result, took 2 secs:
The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Rockville is 1 in 68. Based on FBI crime data, Rockville is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Maryland, Rockville has a crime rate that is higher than 64% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.

We bought in Virginia (Fairfax County) in 2013 because of the gang activity in Maryland. Besides Bethesda and Chevy Chase, there is no acceptable area in Montgomery County.

I live in Rockville and feel safe. Property crime happens everywhere and is not necessarily gang related, which is what OP was asking about.

So, I'll ask again.. where in Rockville is all this gang activity happening?

Agreed and someone who doesn't have any actual data, just stereotypical bigotry.

While PG County has high crime rates, if you look at the statistics, the majority of those cirmes occur in the small (less than 10%) portion of central PG county inside the beltway. The approximately 95% of the county that is outside of the beltway has crime statistics similar to the other beltway counties both in MD and VA.

So, while there are definitely high crime areas, blaming the entire county (e.g. "anywhere in PG county") is just one racist who can't be bothered to temper their bigotry by actually looking at data.

And for the record, there is significantly more gang activity in Montgomery County than in PG County. The crime in PG is far less gang-related than in MoCo.

Rockville, Gaithersburg, Wheaton and Silver Spring have MS-13 gangs.

There is a lot less crime and gang activity in Fairfax County than MOCO. You can't raise kids in MOCO.

This is from a more a 2021 article:
https://www.justice.gov/usao-md/pr/ms-13-gang-leader-pleads-guilty-racketeering-conspiracy-gang-activities-including-murders

MS-13 is a national and international gang composed primarily of immigrants or descendants from El Salvador and other central American countries. Branches or “cliques” of MS-13, one of the largest street gangs in the United States, operate throughout Frederick County, Anne Arundel County, Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County, Maryland.

As you stated, it's a national problem, and it exists in NoVa, too.
