Western Maryland is more about the drug gangs than white supremacists. The grow houses and dispensaries have made it a haven for the fentanyl crowd and their suppliers. I visited Cumberland over Thanksgiving and had to go to a Truist bank for my father. While their I got $100 because I needed cash for people raking his leaves. A male bank officer walked me to my car because I had cash. He explained druggies grab handbags to buy fentanyl from gangs to disburse around the area.

What type of nonsense is this? Cannabis growing facilities are highly secured and legit and are not staffed by junkies! WTF the paranoid crap DCUM comes up with. Conservative men are known to play the white knight role around what they view as helpless women who need big strong bro types to “protect” them.

You do not sound at all familiar with Cumberland. I grew up there and visit my father regularly there. He has worked in law enforcement for years and knows exactly what is happening in Cumberland. This was no "white knight" conservative man who walked me to my car. He was in his 20s and said that it is the bank's policy to walk ANYONE to their car after they withdraw cash. Sounds like you have a lot of experience with the big bro types, maybe you give off that "I need a man" vibe.

Kalorama was never sketchy, what with all the embassies. But yes, just a few years ago Obama and Ivanka/Jared both lived there. Bezos bought a house there, but don’t know whether he ever stays there.

It kind of was a transitional area when I moved there in the 80s. The PPs point was all areas change over time. Even Logan Circle was once rife with streetwalkers but today is a lovely neighborhood.

In the 1960s the Twinbrook Mafia consisted of guys from Broome Junior high School iand Richard Montgomery they would meet outside the twinbrook bowling alley in Rockville wearing black leather coats. I went to school with all of them and grew up in twinbrook myself. They were not organized just love to drink and fight etc Most grew out of it and became responsible working adults.

My friend lives in a million dollar home in the crunchy a$$ part of Takoma Park. A stray bullet entered her home through her wall and ended up 2 inches over her headboard. This is an America problem. I live in Silver Spring and haven't noticed any type of gang activity. Perhaps if you told us your price range and must haves, we can give suggestions.

Where we live in PG county stray bullets from gang and gang-adjacent stuff is a real concern. When dumb people are shooting at the each other on the street, everyone is in danger.

But the actual gang activity stuff isn’t really a factor. They’re mostly doing drug stuff, which I don’t do, and extorting undocumented immigrants. And maybe there’s retail theft stuff or similar that I also don’t notice. The drug activity seems to be concentrated in specific areas where we just don’t go. Like, “Hyattsville” is a vast area as far as the post office. But Langley Park is a world away from downtown Hyattsville in many ways.
