Areas in Maryland with gangs?

Anonymous
I recently found out there were at least two gangs in Hyattsville that I had no clue about. What about Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Kensington and Rockville? These are areas where we’re looking to buy and gang activity is a deal breaker.

Gangs are everywhere op. Even in a so called nice area, gangs go there because people have money. Get some therapy for your anxiety maybe.

Potomac and Chevy Chase - horrible for gangs

OP this kind of conversation has never gone well on here. Don't expect it to start now.

Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown....just assume it exists.

OP I have worked in schools where gang members attended. Can you be more specific about what gang activity you're talking about?

You need not worry about gangs unless you plan to do business with them or if you happen to fit their recruitment demographic. Montgomery County has a gang taskforce and gang activity has decreased. Silver Spring is huge. My much maligned zip code, 20906, is huge and, in my neighborhood, there are no signs of gangs.

Yes to all of these. And do not expect any sympathy or conversation on your post Op. Most of the posters on this tread are social justice live and let live idiots who will call you a "Karen" for judging a neighborhood's safety on gang activity or proximity. Listen to your instincts and do what feels right for your family. I suggest you visit your local police department, they will gladly inform you on the areas of concern. And yes, I'm sure I'll get flamed for this suggestion. So DO NOT care.

In Southern Md, northern Md and the Eastern Shore, there are racists, white supremacists and magas. Do you consider these to be gangs? Is their presence a barrier to moving there?

Yikes. OP here. Had no idea that not wanting to live in a neighborhood with gang activity would be a contentious issue! Apologies if I offended anyone, just trying to find the safest place I can for my family that we can afford. If there’s an increased chance for stray bullets in certain places I’d feel more comfortable not living there.

My friend lives in a million dollar home in the crunchy a$$ part of Takoma Park. A stray bullet entered her home through her wall and ended up 2 inches over her headboard. This is an America problem. I live in Silver Spring and haven't noticed any type of gang activity. Perhaps if you told us your price range and must haves, we can give suggestions.

As a Rockville resident, this is news to me. Where in Rockville are the gangs? Can't speak to the other cities, but I have never felt or seen any gang activity in Rockville. Where and what gangs are these?

BTW I grew up out west with real gangs in schools in the 80s/90s.
