Areas in Maryland with gangs?

Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown....just assume it exists.

This. Langley Park too although not on your list, OP. Basic info should come up in a Google search of news articles and the FBI has some resources as does DOJ.

Please just move to Bethesda

B-CC actually does have gang activity but keeps it on the DL.

There was the CC shooting last week. Knife fights at W's last Fall. I think it's changing for the worse. There are just so many other desirable areas these days that it isn't the same as 20 years ago.

So true! Also, a lot CC isn't even walkable. Look at the many great areas people like these days which were a mess 20-30 years ago. Areas like DuPont or Logan used to be sketchy but not these days. I hear ex-Presidents or Billionaires live in places like Kalorama.

Kalorama was never sketchy, what with all the embassies. But yes, just a few years ago Obama and Ivanka/Jared both lived there. Bezos bought a house there, but don’t know whether he ever stays there.

It kind of was a transitional area when I moved there in the 80s. The PPs point was all areas change over time. Even Logan Circle was once rife with streetwalkers but today is a lovely neighborhood.

You must have missed the thread that they are back or the news that a Peace Corps director from Tacoma Park was killed by a stray/crossfire after having dinner with his wife in Logan. Shame they didn't go out to eat in Bethesda. Had young kids.

Move to close-in NOVA, far less crime. Look at Washington Post map for violent crimes, NOVA is exponentially safer.

MS13 is in those areas. If you live or work there, you will see them out regularly. Hyattsville/PG has different gangs that control the turf.

MS-13 is prevalent in the DMV but unless you’re affiliated it’s pretty much business as usual

OP says they weren’t aware for a while so it’s probably not a big deal. When you’re hearing gunshots and see a police presence on a regular basis, then be concerned.

It's not a big deal until they carjack you, bro.

The good thing is that MD has a really good investigative task force and they prevent many crimes from occurring. Of course they can’t catch everything. Lots of small businesses are bullied by gangs which threaten them and then charge for protection. Especially in immigrant owned businesses.

This. They burned down an immigrant owned restaurant who refused to participate in Rockville just this summer. Look it up yourself.

But the actual gang activity stuff isn’t really a factor. They’re mostly doing drug stuff, which I don’t do, and extorting undocumented immigrants. And maybe there’s retail theft stuff or similar that I also don’t notice. The drug activity seems to be concentrated in specific areas where we just don’t go. Like, “Hyattsville” is a vast area as far as the post office. But Langley Park is a world away from downtown Hyattsville in many ways.

Just for clarification, the gang activity in PG county is predominantly located in the areas of the county inside the beltway. There are far fewer issues in the areas of the county outside the beltway. If you get to Beltsville, Laurel, Greenbelt, Bowie (on the north side), there is very little gang activity and very few gun related incidents.

Twinbrook Mafia, was mostly Viet Nam Vets. They used to hang in a field by the apartments that flooded.
