Restaurants offer what people order. And restaurant meals do not have a huge impact on the health of the average kid. I’d much rather see time and effort going into measures that are research backed and have more potential to improve lives.
There’s also so much toxic messaging around what’s healthy vs not when research shows that kids benefit from exposure to all kinds of foods, but what is really driving unhealthy eating is the fact that we label certain foods unhealthy and make a big deal out of them, thus making them more exciting. |
I agree. One restaurant that does kids menus well is Nandos. |
Yes. Exactly. Which is why when we're at Rio, we usually end up at Nandos instead of CPK or that burger place. It's easier for everyone to eat healthy at Nandos. Let the market decide though. Don't force it |
Imagine Marc Elrich telling your kids what to eat to prevent obesity.
|
| I am supportive of almost any legislation that reinforces just how toxic the restaurant and agriculture industries are for people. |
I had a couple of minutes and took an online stroll through the RIO restaurants and looked at their kids menus. Yard House, Cooper Canyon Grill, California Pizza kitchen, Guapo, Silver diner all offered at least one healthy choice already. You can order a vegetable side with any kids meal. I agree, let the market decide and the Montgomery county needs to stop over reaching and looking for problems were problems don’t exist. |
| So many stooges for Big Tobacco here. |
| I'm not against healthy food but I do think there are more important issues to solve in MoCo. |
There is no Olive Garden in Montgomery County. Also, what restaurants do you frequent where those are the only options? We normally get Thai, Korean, Mexican, or Middle Eastern. Never seen a hot dog or chicken nuggets on the menu. |
| We eat out about 3 times a month. We do not keep soda and juice at home. When we go out my kids can choose what they want (within limits). Having a kids sized soda or fries is fine. Parents choose their kids food at home. They can choose it out to. Parents can choose restaurants that they have what they are looking for. The county does not need to require specific foods. |
So many granola eaters here from Takoma Park/SS. Hippies ruining MoCo. |

MC already scared big businesses away. And now they are doing everything they can to push restaurants out. Most restaurants offer healthy options, salads, soups, etc.
Otherwise, besides the Ensure idea, restaurants can keep a big bag of frozen vegetables in the freezer and a few cans of low sodium vegetable soup in storage, ready to serve. And as others already mentioned, fix the food at schools first besides trying to control a business that you don't own. |
| Montgomery county doing what they do best, creating solutions to problems that don't exist and ignoring the problems that do. |
No. A yawn clearly means "you are boring me". PP is probably sick of people bringing up school closures in threads that are not about school closures. |
| This is well-intentioned but a bad idea. If they want to work on regulations for food, stick to school food. That's it in a nutshell. The hand-wringing by some PPs is a bit much. |
