Masking outdoors

LOL at the person who said of course for appearances sake!! You win the most ridiculous comment on this thread! Admitting to being a sheeple and actually being proud of it!

But also, the person who commented that they caught covid outdoors recently is in good company. I know many people who have contracted in recent weeks with only outdoor exposure. So if it is important to you to never catch covid, then sure wear the mask. Although, I think evidence is showing that with close contact even the mask is not going to stop transmission.

I am personally not too worried about catching covid at this point, so no, I would not bother to wear the mask.

Some of us are worried for our kids who have illnesses where getting covid would be terrible for them so we do not want to get it.
I wish people would understand that.
I thank the people who mask for my child in mind even if they do not know her personally.

Absolutely not. Let the kid breathe some fresh air. This is madness. I only mask outdoors when it’s very cold/windy or if i am running to the store and have no makeup on.

I don't understand why other people are so threatened by what I ask my own child to do. I get that you might not want to wear a mask yourself. I'm not asking you to. I'm just asking that you leave my child alone.

People constantly say that those of us who take a lot of precautions are anxious, but many people on this thread appear to be afraid of a piece of clothing that someone else's child is wearing. I'm taking an action that doesn't hurt you one bit, to prevent a rare but potentially devastating outcome. You're taking an action that belittles a child to prevent . . . well nothing. My child wearing a mask does nothing to you.

Hardcore anti-masker here and couldn’t care less that you want your child to wear a face mask. It defies science, but go ahead if it makes you feel better. The problem is 99% of people who wear a mask outdoors like you are fascists who want the world to bend to their every whim, and wear a mask outdoors as a performative stunt to signal their high moral worth. You should join the campaign to stop the insanity if you want to be taken seriously.

Hmm. Do you have some scientific evidence that 99% of people who mask outside are fascists?

Going crazy over catching it and masking outdoors seems a little extreme. Letting your kid ride in your car to tennis is about a zillion times riskier than catching Omicron while playing and getting really sick.

Good for you? But is it possible---have you imagined perhaps---that not everyone will have a "very mild" experience? Or does your imagination not stretch that far?

+1.
The lack of empathy is astounding.
My family members continue to mask outside if we know that we will be near other people. My mother has a serious lung issue and lives with us. Covid would be a death sentence for her. My mother in law has cancer. If we want to see her, we can't have so much as the sniffles. I don't expect everyone around us to mask, but I do appreciate it when it happens (my daughter's riding instructor knows about our family health issues and masks around us - her thoughtfulness is meaningful)

Can someone post a citation for a link that you can catch omicron outdoors unmasked? Just from being there?

Then you need to stay home.

These are very unfortunate circumstances and I'm sorry you have to deal with them. But, it is up to your mother and MIL to take care of themselves. You seem to recognize that, which is appreciated.

Unfortunately with omicron it might be a good idea to wear a mask outdoors. I masked outdoors the first year of the pandemic, then stopped. Now I've mostly started again, depending on how crowded the sidewalk is. I definitely would mask outside if socializing.

This is insane. We never wear masks outdoors.

What I find irresponsible is educated liberals who are so terrified of what other people think of them that they ignore science. Ignoring science for political gain is problematic at any end of the spectrum. If someone who claims to be educated and progressive thinks less of me for not masking outdoors, that’s not my concern. Get a spine, FFS.
