Yes, my kids complain about them and rip them off as soon as they get out of school. They're thrilled whenever we do an outdoor playdate or something that doesn't require masks. My 5-year old talks about wanting to see her friends' faces . We also attend a center that serves kids with developmental disabilities, and they are all really struggling.

Yup. My kindergartner came home today and told me through tears about show and tell in his classroom today. He was majorly upset that he couldn’t see any faces - “mom, do you think they liked it? I couldn’t see if anyone was smiling at me.”

My younger one is learning about what facial expressions mean using photos the teachers printed from the internet instead of just laughing and crying with friends.

Anyone who thinks this is not impacting the development of our kids in every way is totally out to lunch.

Your kid will be just fine. You need to get your mental health checked if you don't get how contagious and serious covid is.

NP. Covid can be contagious and serious AND parents of toddlers and young children can be concerned about the effects of masks on development. These aren’t mutually exclusive.
I am high risk for covid so, even though I am vaccinated and received a booster 2 months ago, I’m doing as much as I can to avoid it. Simultaneously, I am also concerned about the impact the past 2 years of social distancing, masking, school closures, and repeated quarantines have had on my young children, one of whom was born early in the pandemic. Developmentally, she seems fine, but our pediatrician has said that their practice has seen an uptick in referrals to speech therapy for the young toddler set. Anecdotal, yes, I know. But you are kidding yourself if you think that inability to see the faces of caregivers for much of the day doesn’t have at least some sort of impact. Come on.

Anyone, like us, who is high risk is keeping their kids home.

I have deliberately never complained about masks in front of my kids. Why is hard to believe/acknowledge that they would find them uncomfortable? Do you realize they are actually little humans with the same needs for comfort, verbal comprehension, and connection as us?

This is not "how viruses work," as evidenced by the fact that no other country masks children under 6 and have seen no increased spread in that age group or in the community as a result. Masking children in diapers is a policy choice, not a pandemic inevitability, and it's one that makes us compete global outliers.
