Where locally are young kids not masked at school?

Yes, my kids complain about them and rip them off as soon as they get out of school. They're thrilled whenever we do an outdoor playdate or something that doesn't require masks. My 5-year old talks about wanting to see her friends' faces . We also attend a center that serves kids with developmental disabilities, and they are all really struggling.

Of course they do and it's your damn fault. Whiners raise whiners.

I have deliberately never complained about masks in front of my kids. Why is hard to believe/acknowledge that they would find them uncomfortable? Do you realize they are actually little humans with the same needs for comfort, verbal comprehension, and connection as us?

I'm the first poster of this thread asking about whether your kids complain but haven't replied since. I don't find it hard to believe or acknowledge. I was asking genuinely because my kids DON'T complain, but maybe I'm just lucky. I've been wearing a mask without complaint for almost 2 years now, I live in a super high transmission area (NYC), ride the subway, attend work in person, my kids are in school in person, etc. I'm dealing with it and my kids are too, but in my (lucky?) case it really does seem like "the kids are alright" and I'm just the one who's struggling. My kids are 6 and 3 and know little else about the world beyond the pandemic. The whole mask thing reminds me of hearing my grandma complain about how uncomfortable she felt wearing a seatbelt, and watching her often drive without. Whereas I never noticed my seatbelt once on, because that was all I knew.

Only rabid maskers compare masks to seatbeats. You probably work from home. Wearing a mask 40-45 hrs a week for years (including in DC outside for little children) is a big flipping deal. My kids do it because there is no alternative but it’s getting old and it’s not nothing. Seeing faces has been proven to be really important like researchers have done tons of studies on that (I’m thinking specifically about the baby monkey who had two items in his cage, a bottle with milk and an empty bottle that had a face drawn on it). The baby monkey spent all of its time with the empty bottle with a face. That’s how important faces are. Christ. It’s a big deal. And for what? Cloth masks are garbage. Most higher quality masks don’t fit well enough to matter. Enough. End it.

If you are referring to the Harlow's monkey the monkey chose the blanket for comfort.

+1 +1 +1 Well said.

The same people calling for high quality masks are the ones who spent the last two years insisting cloth stops viruses. When it’s proven ineffective they just can’t give up the dream. Medical masks never changed the trajectory of the pandemic in Germany. N95 masks are not designed for children’s faces. Just give it up with the stupid face coverings. You are wasting time and resources on a failed intervention. Let’a work to get Paxlovid widely available and paid sick leave for essential workers.

My 12yo hates wearing masks. According to her no one can hear her, it makes her break out, and she gets super sweaty. She also finds it hard to breathe with one sometimes.

Everyone hates wearing a mask but we do it to protect ourselves and others.

Yeah no. It’s not the responsibility of toddlers to protect adults anymore. Adults can get vaccinated.

Given the new executive order, look for pre-K 3 at a public school.

Our moco private is mask free (aside from a few kids who’s elarebta emchoose to have them wear masks) but people here act like our school is Trumpville. I’m thankful that my kids attend school without masks. It has been a much better year for them. But good luck getting moco to relinquish the control they are nursing. We’ll be wearing masks forever here.

I agree. It’s no longer about the mask or science, it’s about the newfound ability of governments to say jump and their constituents not only not questioning why they’re jumping but scolding anyone who’s not. Why wouldn’t people in power love this? I feel like I’ve lost my mind seeing so many parents turn into sheep. Where are our critical thinking skills we’re so concerned about teaching our kids? Common sense even? Gone now, if the government tells you to leave it.

Are you posting from prison? If not, then you too have complied with the governments laws. It’s funny how the “ tough on crime “ section of the political spectrum are suddenly against following rules.

Small kids are with unmasked family at home and outdoors. There isn’t any harm in them wearing masks for the few hours that they are in school. Maybe they will be better attuned to body language and reading people’s eyes since they can’t rely on looking at people’s mouth’s while they speak?

I know acting students who found artistic advantages from rehearsing in masks.
