Where locally are young kids not masked at school?

Can you share which one? We are in DC, but considering driving our 2 year old to a daycare in Northern Virginia so they don't have to mask.

Agree this is all so insane.

This is a real problem when Children’s development is being affected. We need a science based risk based approach- tiny COVID risk vs major developmental issues/ mental health problems.

Teen suicide is real thing.

The state doesn’t, but some county health departments do (or preschools and daycares are choosing to follow the county than the state).

Any religious schools in DC or MoCo that you're aware of, by chance?

For many reasons, we ended up leaving DC and moving to South Florida.
Many will poke fun and insert FLoriduh man/Desantis joke here, but we are thriving and have never been happier.
Many many wear masks indoors but there is no mandate. Vaccines, boosters, and monoclonal antibody treatments- no issues obtaining.
Our toddler's preschool does not mandates masks for children, but some parents choose to send them, and that decision is supported. All teachers and staff wear masks the whole day.
I am very grateful that we can choose- whether to wear a mask indoors (of course, if a business requires it, we happily wear it), whether our 3 year old has to wear it, if we want to dine indoors or attend an event, etc.

Living in DC (and subsequent visits back) felt suffocating and much more about virtue signaling than following common sense and science. I chuckled at signs for restaurants and bars in logan circle that said "proof of vax required, and masks must be worn when not actively eating or drinking."

What? If you can eat indoors then the jig is up. Asking for vax proof and masks to be put on in between bites is beyond absurd.
The trump years pushed me so far left, but the DC-area response and anxiety + moving to Florida has pushed me a bit right of center.

I hope you find what you are looking for and that your (and everyone's!) families are healthy and happy!

So you “happily” wear a mask in FL but when a business asks you to wear a mask in DC it is “suffocating.” Not sure why that would be. And the “happily” part disappeared into “chuckling” (making fun of/laughing at) a business that asked you to do it (but again only in DC?)

Glad you found your pot to thrive in!

Mi Palacio in Takoma was pretty chill about it last year, even for the older kids. It helped that the parents got together and agreed it wasn't a good idea. There were regularly DC inspectors there so I don't think the city had any issues with how they were doing it.

Masks are not required in MoCo private preschools or daycares either. They are *recommended* on kids under 5 but not required.

Do you know of a MoCo preschool or daycare that isn't requiring masks? Every single one I know is because of the state's "strong recommendation." Would love to find one that isn't!

Preschools and child care have to follow the county rules and mandates, not just the state.

Also, masks do not affect child development. The preponderous of the evidence says this.

What evidence?

Why do you think no other country has recommended mask usage in children under 6, if it has no impact on development?

Is this true? Our preschool has heavily implied it’s a MOCO requirement. They also recently re-instated mask outside which masks me nuts. God I hope these kids get a break soon.
