I remember a few years back, LP was trying out some longer hemlines for women over 30 or over, like, 5’6”, who found the shift dresses too short. But it only lasted a season, maybe, and then Covid hit and their market for dresses tanked. In 2020 they had to actually run a mid-season sale/discount code for the first time ever.

Yes I’m still buying LP but the quality is not as it once was. Some items are the same thin fabric as clothes from Old Navy or whatever. I also find that a few LP items go a long way in your wardrobe so you don’t need a lot.

Same. We just got back from Palm Beach. Lots of people wearing Lily. Hard to imagine that there are many areas more "rich" than PB...

Palm Beach is just retirees. The average age is more than 70 years old. They were literally all NJ housewives 5 years ago. Or still are for half the year (keeping a foot in florida to avoid state income taxes....). They are for all intents and purposes tourists, not Floridians. Citing PB as proof that people in Florida wear LP pretty much proves the point of the first PP above. If that's the rich florida look you are going for, you be you.

I can happily report that there was plenty of Lily in Miami when we were there in November. Are you going to claim that Miami is filled with NJ housewives who are more than 70 years old? Really?

I'm 46 y/o and you wouldn't pay me to wear it, and we have a FL home. It's for older ladies, like 60+. Us, middle age ones, wear DVF, Rebecca Taylor, vintage J Crew, Tory B, Boden. The youngsters, like my DS1's gf, wear Farm Rio, Zimmermann, Rag&Bone, All Saints.

Yup, i'm a Florida resident PP and agree with this list. Women in their 30s 40s and 50s who bother with fashion are wearing run of the mill stuff from Saks, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom. Not LP. Again, LP = tourist moms.

That's what I don't like about the shift dresses -- I'm tall, and they're too short.

I think the stores are worse too in terms of service and selection…the store in old Town used to carry some other similar brands too and have great service and sales. Now it’s corporate owned and run and only carries Lilly amd has the same sales as the web store.

That's what I don't like about the shift dresses -- I'm tall, and they're too short.

All their dresses are so short (it’s kind of the their “thing”) but it only looks cute on young women. No matter how hot your body looks at age 40+, it’s weird and try hard to be in a minidress. I do like some LP but I haven’t worn their regular shifts since maybe 3-4 years post college. I have some 3/4 length sleeve tops that have held up well, travel fairly well without wrinkling too much, and can be dressed up or down.

I am in my 50s and wear a couple of LP solid color silk blouses. But I also wear R&B, All Saints and Zimmerman (as do many of my friends as well as my young adult daughters), in addition to Jenni Kayne, J. Crew, etc.

Depressing.

Yes, trying to be attractive, cool and age appropriate in Summer is often depressing. If you’re lucky you’ll grow older and face similar sartorial challenges someday.

PP here. I am 42 and not trying to be snarky. By "depressing" I mean, yes, I agree and understand and I hate it.
