COVID Cases at W-L Right Now?

I think it's vaccinated people wondering why other vaccinated people are freaking out so much when evidence shows that vaccinations prevent serious illness. If you are panicking because your teenager doesn't have a booster, that mean YOU are the one who doesn't believe the vaccines work.

That’s not how it works buddy. Like with many vaccines, immunity wanes and boosters are needed. Would you only give your kid 1 of 3 MMR shots? 2 of 3 HPV?

Do you really think your (already very low risk) 15 year old with 2 doses is in danger right now? For real? Based on what?

Is this forum lagging behind, somehow?

Some Montgomery County schools in MD had 50 cases last week (one had 75, our had 40). Some DC schools had to merge classrooms and not teach because too many teachers and students were out.

Prince George's County in MD has gone virtual, ostensibly until Jan 14. Several private schools in DC and close suburbs have gone virtual. Others will follow.

Omicron is 5 times more transmissible than Delta, and therefore the consequence will be a shortage of staff in schools, hospitals, etc, as well as a shortage of Covid tests... until we're forced into closures.

Easy solution then - only test symptomatic kids, just like the NFL. STOP TESTING!

School is more important than football.

WL is a big school of course there are cases.

My kid is at Hamm and many families opted in for weekly testing so every other week or so we get notice that a kid in 6th (or 7th or 8th) has tested positive- but nobody but test positive child is sitting out. A kid on my child’s indoor sports team was positive, but nobody else contracted it.

I would assume many “healthy, asymptomatic” positive people are out there everywhere. Unless every single person walking around is tested daily (which is not possible). The best we can do as a society is vaccinate and anyone with symptoms is tested and then quarantines if positive.

I agree. We got to move beyond counting cases, to just dealing with people who are sick. The NFL is doing it.

Right now, a W-L team has COVID and some crazy commenter on AEM is saying teams should wear a KN94 or KN95. That's completely ludicrous and I'm sure that person never played or coached sports. Many of these kids are going for scholarships, and need to play well.

COVID was the least of their worries even before the vaccine. Now they're all vaccinated. Let's play ball boys!

I saw that comment! That is ventilation woman. She's an insane person who trolls these boards and thinks everyone's going to die or get Long COVID. Ignore.

B/c of players or "out of an abundance of caution"?

They need to stop testing asymptomatic players. These kids are going for scholarships. The NFL is stopping doing it and all sports should stop.

We need to move to living with the virus.

What are you taking about the NFL is doing it? They’re still testing players. I haven’t even read this thread, but I do know people need to stop spreading misinformation.

You are spreading misinformation. Do you have a student on the team?

Neither is the NHL, for now. They just shut down the whole league. Does that mean we should shut down HS sports because of what a professional sports league is doing? If a bar closes, does that mean a school can decide to close too? You are raising silly comparisons. You just don't care, which is fair enough. But jgo ahead and say what you mean.

People should not be citing the NFL as an organization that is looking out for player health and safety. Come on.

Well, specifically the NFL is doing the following:

- no longer testing vaccinated asymptomatic players weekly
- continue to DAILY testing of unvaccinated asymptomatic players
- daily symptom screening
- spot testing of vaccinated players
- vaccinated players with symptoms need to be excluded from play until they have a negative test (or two?)

So if you want to use the NFL's protocol for schools that means

- daily testing for all unvaccinated students and teachers
-daily symptom screening for all staff and students
- spot testing randomly of students and staff
- vaccinated students and staff who have any symptoms need to be excluded from school until they can provide a negative COVID test (or two?)

We’re talking sports, not school. The athletes are all already vaccinated
