COVID Cases at W-L Right Now?

Anonymous
I have a student at W-L who is hearing rumors that at least one student (and others rumored as well) is out with COVID, and apparently they aren’t contact-tracing because the kid who tested positive is fully vaccinated. What are others hearing/seeing? Is my student just anxious or are cases on the rise?

I don't know about any rumors. Presumably there hasn't been spread, and since kids are out for Christmas beginning Monday, any positive cases likely won't become much of an issue for the school system. In the DC area only a very small number of public and private schools have let out early for the holidays because of covid spread among the students.

Thanks, that’s reassuring

You can look at the dashboard to see that there were three cases at W&L today.

Check the dashboard. Tons of cases reported this week. I thought vaccination exempted you from being treated as a close contact, I don’t think it alters your status as a positive case as to whom contact tracing needs to be done. I would not be shocked, however, if the rules are being misapplied and followed incorrectly.

Tons of cases in schools all over the DMV. The damn is breaking and the next wave is upon us.

Heard a rumor kids on basketball and football teams at W-L recently tested positive? If so, the sports program-focused testing is doing it’s job and helping us get a more clear picture of Covid cases in the schools.

12-15 yo are 6 months out from their shots - expect waning immunity and more positive cases in the age group sadly.

Guys - there is no need for rumors. The dashboard lists 2 positives (1 athlete) at W&L today. It's easy to find out the info.

Helpful! Dashboard shows that in the past 7 days W-L has had 17 student cases, which is the most of any school in APS. I’m new to the dash, so let me know if anyone reads it differently?

Yes that is correct. If you look at this view, it shows the last 7 days and you can see a graph by school. Note, this is students only.

Time to authorize the booster for the 12-15 YO age group.

Is a booster in the works for that age bracket? Not even sure. Also are schools hosting booster clinics for older teens who are eligible? Maybe that would help?

The principal sent an email Monday saying there were 5 cases among students. All parents should have gotten it.

Any safety research on that? 0. Same with 16-17 year olds, but they approved it with 0 data. And there's an elevated risk with the vaccine with myocarditis in young people, especially in young males.

Pre-vaccine, these kids were at statistically 0 risk of COVID complications. Post-vaccination, I can't even imagine the amount of 0s after the decimal point in the %. There is a tiny risk to the vaccine - is a booster riskier than any possible benefits for this age bracket?

Who knows. We definitely don't know for 16 to 17 year olds, and data is limited in other people too. I would say those kids with serious health problems would alter that equation.
