This message board is really freaking me out. I know people who lost multiple loved ones to Covid. This is real.

1.3M people died from heart disease since COVID started too. Where is your concern for them?

The COVID doomers love to push the morbid body count stat, but fail to mention in the US (a) the average age of COVID deaths is around the life expectancy and (b) 1/3 of deaths were nursing home residents. In NY state, more people died over the age of 100 than died under the age of 35.

The CDC estimated more pediatric H1N1 deaths (low end) in seven months than Covid is associated with in two years.

Stop with such facts. No one is ever supposed to die again! Let's stop all deaths.

We must sacrifice kids' lives here in Arlington while the majority of the country returns to normal. Your talking "focused protection" pre-2020 pandemic playbook talk, the way it was done for every other pandemic. No, Arlington kids' childhoods must be sacrificed to save a 75 year old anti-vaxxer a hospitalization in North Dakota.

The antivaxers are a bit wacky on this board…. Hospitals are getting overwhelmed and ours will join them soon. Not a good scene.

Young teens got their second shot a while ago, and can’t get a booster. Would be nice if those kids who don’t feel safe in crowded schools right now could go virtual and the rest could stay in class. Could certain grades only go virtual? Or is there not logistically possible?

Yes, All middle schoolers are in this predicament. There may need to be different protocols based on school (es, ms, hs).

My DD is friends with two kids at WL who tested positive for Covid. Both were fully vaccinated as well as everyone in their families.

More APS hs sports game cancellations were just announced for next week. The new variant is just really contagious. Hopefully most positive cases will be asymptotic since Arlington is fairly well vaccinated.

I think it's vaccinated people wondering why other vaccinated people are freaking out so much when evidence shows that vaccinations prevent serious illness. If you are panicking because your teenager doesn't have a booster, that mean YOU are the one who doesn't believe the vaccines work.

Is this forum lagging behind, somehow?

Some Montgomery County schools in MD had 50 cases last week (one had 75, our had 40). Some DC schools had to merge classrooms and not teach because too many teachers and students were out.

Prince George's County in MD has gone virtual, ostensibly until Jan 14. Several private schools in DC and close suburbs have gone virtual. Others will follow.

Omicron is 5 times more transmissible than Delta, and therefore the consequence will be a shortage of staff in schools, hospitals, etc, as well as a shortage of Covid tests... until we're forced into closures.

That’s not how it works buddy. Like with many vaccines, immunity wanes and boosters are needed. Would you only give your kid 1 of 3 MMR shots? 2 of 3 HPV?

Stop. That level of ignorance and misunderstanding of science is basically trolling. NYC Cases spiked 194% in 2 weeks, hospitalizations rose 48% in 2 weeks, and deaths have inched up, but too recently to be included in the statistics. What this means is that it's way too early to tell how high hospitalizations will go... except that most experts say most hospitals WILL get overwhelmed, because staff will be out with Covid, so the number of beds will be effectively decreased.
