Amen! It must be nice to have all this time to pick apart someone’s resignation letter.

Here's one of my favorite examples of FCPS anti-bias training. Lots and lots of meaningless words. Enjoy!

What a load of meaningless garbage. I love how academics is depicted on the periphery on Slide 7. Equity, SEL, and family engagement are at the core, we'll get to academics some day.

When you don't prioritize a career, you've got all the time in the world.

It's the irony that the job itself is meaningless and of little value, just like the way the former occupant speaks. The latter supports suspicions of the former.

The responsibilities of the Chief Equity Officer, like “creating the space for courageous conversations,” seem rather open-ended. There would undoubtedly be a lot of support for continuing to look ways to close the achievement gaps in FCPS, but one suspects people in these positions are paid to spread the narrative that objective measures of achievement are biased and meaningless. I guess that is a balm to teachers and administrators who don’t want to be held accountable for student results, which was a bit of an obsession post-NCLB, but it’s also a race to the bottom.

To be clear: academics is nowhere near the top of FCPS's priorities. This is clearly illustrated by that link.

Remember Brabrand’s whole “the main thing is the main thing” shtick when he was hired?

People thought he meant academics and educational quality.

Then he realized he was dealing with a bunch of busy-body politicians and pivoted to “equity is at the center of everything we do.” The guy has no backbone at all, and was happy to embrace a bunch of meaningless BS (and hire Chief Equity Officers) as long as it took the pressure off him to actually deliver results.

They have so little time left to straighten out this mess before FCPS is irretrievably tarnished. The incompetence at Gatehouse and the hypocrisy on the School Board is staggering.

This. I used to think I'd want to become a FCPS teacher... but after trying to decipher the garbage in that link that they expect teachers to regurgitate in the classroom, there is no freaking way. I wonder what teachers actually think about all of this nonsense.

She probably wasn’t dancing well enough for those white folks.

Equity work is to advance the education of all students by making sure all kids feel included and welcome to learn. I have listened to the LGBTQ students during public comment at board meetings and I finally get the point of this equity work. I wasn’t against it before but I definitely wasn’t for it. Listening to those kids helped me understand how many kids do not feel included or represented at school and can’t learn as well. And including everyone benefits all kids, not just those in certain minority groups.

Doing this equity work while doing the daily work of education that FCPS already does will help all the kids.

Teachers can do this without wasting all this money on equity officers and initiatives.

And there’s literally no group that has a bigger platform in FCPS these days than the LGBTQ kids. And their patron saints like Robert Rigby practically have endowed chairs at Gatehouse.

They waste so much money that should be spent on improving academics and facilities instead.

But teachers clearly aren’t doing it. LGBTQ kids feel marginalized and are under attack by right wing parents. At some schools, I have heard that Jewish or Muslim kids are teased or subject to crude comments. Obviously the traditionally URM kids suffer.

Simply state that *everyone is to be included* and move on with teaching. This is not hard.

Equity “work” is largely an oxymoron.
