The terrifying "girls are all lying tramps" poster here was enough to push me to sign. I hate that there are parents like that in our community.

Terrifying? Are you denying that boys are falsey accused? That's truly terrifying.

Hey, it’s the “girls are all lying tramps” poster again! Enlighten us if you would: what percentage of sexual assault claims are false, in your estimation? Because if even you would agree that it’s more than zero, then don’t we have some responsibility to ensure that those claims are investigated, so that we can identify the true ones?

I'm neither of those posters, but I am a mother to two sons. What's being decried here, imo, isn't that false claims happen (we know they do) but that certain people on this thread, and presumably in real life, have already convicted the boys when they haven't been charged. That's wrong. It's illegal too. It's called slander.

The attitude seems to be- hey, it could be true so let's just trash them. If I were you I'd teach your daughter to hold her tongue unless she has indisputable proof something happened.

I can promise you this- were one of my sons being discussed here like this- I would sue you into bankruptcy.

It is statements like this that make it so hard for victims (male or female) to come forward. You are part of the problem.

signed,
YHS alum who was assualted in high school and never reported it because I was too scared of the fall out
(And also a mother of sons)

So you care more about yourself than your own kids. Gross.

Vargas looked like a JV hack. Having to troll forums for material and then getting shredded in the comments because the whole 'piece' is innuendo?

Ouch. Embarassed for her parents.

Vargas may be a lazy journalist, just like the awful, talentless Petula Dvorak, but it’s still Yorktown parents who should be more embarrassed by the behavior of some of their kids.

I predict this will end with a slander/libel lawsuit.

Doubtful. No one is stupid enough to permanently link their name to an accusation of sexual assault.

Those people aren't journalists - they're columnists. They just write about whatever they want and share opinions and experiences. They aren't "news" columns. Just like John Kelly and maybe somewhat arguably Jay Matthews.

I think you mean the columnists aren't reporters, although most of them usually were at one point. Either way, her column was utterly predictable and yet, even so, Yorktown is behind other schools when it comes to clamping down on boorish behavior. I've seen Yorktown kids waltz into the Yorktown gym drunk and high. I've seen them show up at other schools similarly impaired. Other schools have had similar incidents, but they do more to tell students in that condition they aren't welcome at school events or on school property. YHS will catch up eventually.

Yes, they're not reporters.
I'm not at YHS and am only an outside observer; but the impression of the Yorktown environment I've gotten over the years is negative. I know a lot of really good families whose children attend/have attended/will attend and they love Yorktown. But I am experiencing no FOMO here.

Both birds and sexual assault don't exist. I understand now.
