No one is really saying......Parents have asked if this is about the homecoming game or something else on a couple of forums and no one had any answers. I heartily agree with this part:
1. Introducing the Coaching Boys into Men (CBIM) as a program in APS. CBIM is a prevention-based education program for male athletes. It creates an open dialogue for coaches to educate their players on how to be healthy in relationships, what consent and assault are, and how to be leaders in our community. |
My sophomore daughter hasn't said anything new lately about it. She participated in the walkout last month. I did sign the petition though. |
Despite what the petition says, at least one of the creators isn’t an APS student. They heard about the recent discussion surrounding harassment in APS high schools (which is a problem, but not limited to APS), and wanted to do something that will look good on college applications. Spread the petition via a social media campaign and voila- 30k signatures. |
We were not impressed by Yorktown and it was part of the reason we moved out of Arlington. It has a very "bro" culture, the more academically motivated kids try to attend HB and W-L, and many of the White parents are anti-Asian.

Sure, hon. |
Yeah. That part was only shared in NextDoor. I'm not denying that the way they handled hoco didn't seem too impressive, but I'm just a little wary of a petition started by a non-APS student about APS. It does scream college-app to me. I think that's why students who actually go to YHS haven't really said anything. |
From what I understand, she left Yorktown because she was assaulted there. No one leaves for their junior year without good reason. |
I haven’t heard of any specific sexual misconduct at YHS beyond the HoCo game, but there is apparently a senior at WL who has been accused by more than a dozen girls of assault. How this kid isn’t behind bars is beyond me. |
Where did she say that? What I understood is that she went to private when APS wasn’t offering in person classes due to covid. |
According to some students, members of one athletic team are basically untouchable and they know it. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised based upon what I've heard about the athletic director. |
I signed the petition because regardless of the motivation the suggestions were really good and things that can easily be implemented. |
The entire culture at that school needs to change. |
