Or how many times have a club advertised the coaches late for the next year, you sign up, and then it’s completely different with coaches “quitting” in July.
Another vote for don’t feel bad |
+ 1. We all recognize that youth soccer is a business. Hence, the decision to leave/stay is purely business and nothing personal. Don’t let anyone put you through any type of guilt trip. |
| Go to MSYSA.org and look up Player Rights and Obligations. A team cannot ask a player to leave between Fall and Spring, but a player can choose leave. |
| Do whatever you want. The club and coaches have no loyalty to your kid. |
Exactly. It’s a business. Don’t get caught up in all of this. Go where it works for you. |

You asked is it ethical and no it is not. But it is a free country so if you can afford it, financially and in terms of burning that bridge, you can do it.
I do know kids who have trained with new teams. You can even miss one of your own team’s practices to do it but the first team takes priority at other times. |
| You can do whatever you want. Just think about what life lesson you want to teach your kid to make it worth while. |
+1 |
I know alot of kids doing this now. Top team but practices with another team. |
+1 While it’s true no club has any loyalty to players, teammates usually have loyalty to each other, and often coaches do actually care about the team and helping kids grow. I would never permit my kid to leave a team mid-year just because he wants to hang out more with his school friends on a different team. I’d be unimpressed with the values of any parent that did this. I think it’s absolutely fine, though, to see if the coach of the other team is interested in having your kid practice or guest with the team in some tournaments. |
| My DD is u13 and we are moving clubs after this seasons final game. The lesson is- realize when things are not a good fit and move on. Don’t continue to suffer because of some “commitment” you mad 6 months ago. I feel no guilt. |
I agree 100%. We have one more weekend to go and then we're changing clubs, too. |
| Your primary ethical responsibility is to your child, not to an organization. And of course that includes not modeling or encouraging bad or purely opportunistic behavior. But changing is often desirable and sometimes necessary mid season. Is it ethical when teams add players mid season? Or add players at the end of the summer after your kid has accepted offers based on likely roster size and lineup? Probably. But also not often in your kid’s best interest. |
Are all of you paying for the remainder of the year just to leave early? Or were you with a program that was only fall and winter? If the former, there must be big problems for you to leave midyear. |
We have already paid for the year and yes, big problems. The money is already paid and I don’t care if I get it back. I just want out of the madness. |
