Bc no one is going to read 156 pages of people insulting each other. People on this thread are just trying to get to the bottom of issues - esp those of us who haven't followed the whole time and now are like wow there's only a week left to figure out the differences.

Do you honestly believe that there is a person left in the Commonwealth who doesn’t know yet who s/he will vote for? I don’t

Me. I don't vote in anything but presidential elections so I don't follow. Last week I started hearing how close the race is. I'm leaning McA but I am so over the progressive thing that I'm trying quickly figure out how progressive McA really is vs. whether Youngkin is really a Trump/MAGA type.

Youngkin is definitely on the Trump train. Not as crazy as Amanda Chase but that isn’t saying much.

He wouldn’t say that Biden won the election until *after* he got the R nomination.

After that continued to push “election integrity” as a top priority.
https://www.youngkinforgovernor.com/post/youngkin-launches-election-integrity-task-force-with-five-point-plan

He is pushing lies about CRT in schools, math curriculum, school boards.

He has said himself that he’s not forthcoming about abortion. He’s an evangelical Christian Republican and said he’d go on the “offense” if elected.

He’s a clean cut Trumper.

And some points about McAuliffe “progressive” (not really) platform were posted earlier on this thread.

I didn’t vote for Trump, and would not have voted for Amanda Chase, but I’m voting for Youngkin. I’m politically conservative and would like to see Roe overturned.

Gross. Any man or woman who wants to control women’s bodies is gross.

Just voted Youngkin. First R in my 30 years of voting. But what has happened with our schools in the last year is not okay. We can’t wait 2 years for the SB to focus on actual academics.

You're kidding right? The group that got him to run is run by the Pact people in Loudoun who are racist. You doubt Dumbkin is a Trumpkin Maga? You can't be serious.

What part of I don't follow anything besides presidential elections usually (and even that - barely) - are you not understanding? I have no idea why Youngkin is running/who got him to run?

What's SB?

Also what happened to schools - just that they were closed or something more? I mean we're past that point in the pandemic so it's not like schools will close again regardless of governor right or is there something more to this?

I haven't decided yet. I'm generally a fan of divided government, and while Youngkin himself doesn't seem "too wacky", I'm concerned about whom he would bring into the executive branch and what kinds of policies they would pursue. Also, there is a non-zero chance that the House of Delegates could flip to the Republicans, in which case haven't another Democratic governor might not be too bad.

Who thought that having Harris and Biden stump would be a good idea? Obama for sure, but these other two failures will erode support.

This +1,000. As a former Maryland resident, I really wish VA would find its own Larry Hogan.

I'm hoping Larry Hogan makes a presidential run. IDK if there's any speculation on that or not but that's what we need - a true moderate.

He'd win a general maybe - but that guy will never ever ever make it through the Republican primary. Good luck!

Hogan is fantastic. I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.

Except he’d never win the nomination. The GOP base is extreme and he would need to cater to them.

At this point the country should have a third party that encompasses the center, center right, and center left. It’s absurd that someone like Larry Hogan, who I really think could win a general election, won’t get the opportunity because of the crazies that have overtaken the GOP. The Dems caught a break when Joe Biden managed to grab the nomination instead of Bernie Sanders. The whole nomination system is broken because it penalizes those the very candidates who would do best in a general election.

I'd say for the Democrats the nom process is the opposite of broken. We got a true moderate, whose positions are in line with most Democrats - and, for that matter, most Americans.

Republicans, on the other hand...
