| Refs should always be held accountable for mistakes just like every other human being paid a wage for a service. |
Same. Never had this happen in the 8 years I have had kids in travel soccer. |
+1 this illustrates the problem well. Parents and coaches shouldn’t lose their minds and berate the referee if a call is missed. I saw a referee recently eject a coach for screaming profanities about a call he didn’t like and was happy to see the ref cut that behavior. |
| PP, tha'ts still not excuse why your DD's team couldn't defend a corner kick. The team also had about 75 other minutes to score/make up for it. |
| Clubs should have parents come out to practice and ref a scrimmage...it’ll give them a better appreciation for what it entails. Knowing the rules is not even half the battle. I’ve reffed a handful of games and to me it’s like being in a whirlwind - trying to follow the action, while not impeding play, but staying close enough to have a good view, all the while knowing you are only seeing a slice of the field and having to make decisions that, at times, you aren’t entirely certain about. To me it was dizzying - slightly physically, and very much so mentally. |
Corner kick goals at the youth level are typically garbage goals anyway. Not a lot of quality shining through most of the time, so who cares. |
Yes, USSF encourages crew self reflection postgame which you often see. In perfect times there are mentors and assessments as well. This is all accountability with a constructive focus on inprovement. As opposed to: postgame this weekend when a parent approached me and put a hand on my shoulder to ‘apologize’ for his profanity that he said Was caused by my bad call and questioned: “you called advantage and we scored then you called the goal back for offsides, how is that fair? “ Not much of an apology. And if I wasn’t wearing the badge representing USSF and the club and kids I would have normally said get your hand off me and don’t ever touch me. Fun way to start a day with parent privilege |
PP, evidently. |
| Our rec league has one center ref and two line judges for all our U11 games. I can't imagine paying travel money and having no ref. That's bizarre. |
I thought ECNL was the shyt and everybody died to be part of the wonders of that eliteness. loL? How much are the center ref fees for ECNL? |
My son refs and will only do rec league games. |
I ref and some of the absolute worst behavior I've encountered has been in rec league games. |
|
Watched a game yesterday. The team I was supporting got the go-ahead goal on what I thought was offsides. Should I or a parent on the other side be on here complaining about the refs?
|
Really find that interesting as I have had kids in both and travel has always seemed much much worse to me. |
Yes to bold, and this was said in a similar ref thread. You're not at World Cup games, try to adjust your expectations. |
