Basically 13th grade. |
| Neither of my kids did. Instate. One kid, uva didn’t have their major. Other kid had a major that uva was not ranked very high or known globally for. |
Makes no sense and seems unrelated to the post it’s replying to (which is about an MCPS school). |
| Many people don't apply to UVA...what an absolutely stupid question. |
Uh, some private SLACs are now over $84k a year. I’m hoping that UVA, like California and Texas reduce the 1/3 OOS so more Virginians can get in. |
No one tries that argument anymore. Do you have any idea what it takes to get in? |
Our public certainly did. |
+1. |
that was foolhardy because most kids change majors several times over. We banked the difference between a Slac and in-state tuition (Dd lived frugally) so we can now pay for her grad work at Cambridge |
| OOS MCPS, DS applied. Above middle 50% but consider it high reach. Money not an issue. I love that it is close. Might be a little too preppy as my kid is edgy. But he visited and seemed to love. Did not ED. |

Selection bias.
No, not all kids apply. But top students almost always apply to their state flagships because of price. If your kid hangs with them, he will get the answer he got. |
| My mcps w school senior not applying to uva. Doesn’t like the area. |
|
We live in DC. UVA is not on my kids radar in any sense. If we have to pay out of state, there are several other flagship public schools our senior would prefer to attend.
No interest whatsoever. Of course, if UVA were an in-state option, then it might be on the radar, but that would mean we would be living in Virginia, which we didn't want to do. |
| Anyone considering Radford as an alternative? |
|
If you live in Virginia and are a top student you're foolish not to apply to UVA, W&M and Tech. Their best offerings are as good as anywhere and at a fraction of the price. There's no need to fit into a glass slipper -- a pair of socks will do.
Parents are obsessed. |
