| DS goes to MCPS W School. Got into a discussion in homeroom and discovered all but one of the 15 kids were applying to UVA. Brought this up with his (rather large) friend group at lunch who almost all reported to also be applying to UVA. I know it's a great school but what causes the intensity of the draw for MoCo and DC kids? |
UVA boosters strikes again. Must have been on vacation. |
|
My kid decided not to apply after our visit.
(But I think the initial appeal was reputation, campus, historic significance and price) |
| Not sure why the local, but out of state interest though because price is quite high and very low chances of getting in. You'd expect to hear that in VA, though honestly not everyone applies even here. At our LCPS about 75 people applied in a class of 400+. (and 11 got in) |

Come on. Of course some people don’t apply. It’s a great school, but not for everyone.
This is weird thread. |
|
Neither of my kids considered applying.
We are on DC. |
|
What? No.
-UVA grad |
| None of my kids considered any schools in Virginia. |
| Easier to get in for a good to excellent student from a MCPS "W" school than from in-state, coming from a FCPS public. It's a good choice for the MCPS "W" school student. At least it may as well be considered. |
| My MCPS kid (senior) has no interest in any schools in Virginia. My MCPS sophomore might be interested but it's too soon to tell. |
| No to UVA or UMD. Those schools have no appeal for us. |
It’s 70k out of state. DD will apply because it’s a great deal instate, OOS it’s a terrible deal |
+1 Neither of my kids had any interest in these two schools. |
| Neither of my kids were interested in UVA. One wanted to be an engineer and one wanted to major in physics. N |
| My MCPS W school kid is not considering UVA. No way to justify the exorbitant OOS tuition. |
