That doesn’t matter. The 12 jurors matter. You just watch how this will unfold. I grew up in NYC and can think of only 2 people in my circle of friends who will undoubtedly convict him. Both are male & wealthy. This is not what the jury will look like. There will be women, and people with negative sentiments towards the healthcare insurance industry on that bench. It doesn’t help that the alleged perp is very good looking, educated, well spoken, and supposedly excessively kind and likable, while the murder victim was the head of a greedy company, had DUIs, was being investigated by the DOJ for insider trading and his wife left him hears ago. I feel for his kids who not only lost their father but now also have to read in the news how no one cares. |
He is a hero. Deep thinking, intelligent and religious, he saw what needed to be done, and did not try to make this about himself. He has succeeded. It requires bold action to wake people up. I doubt that escape or being acquitted was ever an expectation, but it's a very real possibility. Regardless the news cycles surrounding the trial will be additional bad press for the healthcare industry, and focus on corporate wrong doing. |
Market forces. |

Who knows, maybe he will be the hero that triggered healthcare reform changes.
Because Republicans have not just not done anything, but have been fighting tooth and nail when Obama tried to reform it. I hope Republicans die a slow and painful death from a disease they can’t afford to treat for everything they have ruined in this country. |
He’s been an atheist for a while now |
I think the attention is because he has great paper (cv, pedigree, education, lifestyle) and is hot. The political martyr angle will not appeal to as many people as the hot, smart nice kid who had a mental breakdown. There are other legal and non-homicidal ways to be a political activist. And running your plans past your family, friends and doctors never hurts either. |

There’s a ban on filing or photography IN the courtroom right?
Except for sentencing time? Anyone know if that’s correct? I kind of hope so…. |

Agree. I think he went off the grid so no one else would be marked an accomplice or dragged into it. Very considerate! Trains and busses around Pennsylvania down and up was not a plan. The attorneys have a lot to work with so should be fascinating, but not for months— his laptop, his journals, himself. |
Good for him. That makes him appealing to me. |
+1. Like your DH, I am reasonable, educated, with a stable career, family life, and insurance plan, and depending on the additional facts of the case, I could see myself rooting for “not guilty.” Just because my life is good, it doesn’t mean that I’m not aware how terrible things are for other people in this country, in particular as it relates to healthcare & medical costs bankrupting the most vulnerable. |
He's not a hero unless something changes. Nothing changed for the masses. Ok, one greedy CEO is dead - it doesn't change the industry. When there is real change, then maybe we can call him a hero. Until then, I'm ok with the word killer, which is what he is. |
None of those changes are going to happen. Maybe if there are a ton of copy cats, and I doubt that will happen. |
This kind of unstable person would choke you out in your sleep. But glad that's appealing to you. |
Nope, people were very much team shooter for the days prior to his reveal. Most political change starts with violence, seldom happens any other way. This shooter is sane, our busted system could easily set him free nonetheless. |
