Some of the headlines read that they are giving up their HRH titles, and some say they will no longer be using them. The Palace statement says the latter. This seems like an important distinction though, doesn't it?

I think the Queen was very sorry to see them leave. She seemed to get on well with Meghan-- there were lots of photos early on with them smiling and chatting at events-- and I think she appreciated how hard Meghan wanted to work on behalf of the family and charity, and so on. You could see that in the way the Queen gave her some notable high profile responsibilities right away. The Queen and Harry have always been close. For those reasons, she probably also recognized how distressed the couple must be to want to leave it all for a more private life. I'm sure she's genuinely disappointed and genuinely wishes the well.

They still get to use the Duke and Duchess titles, just no HRH in front of them. It’s the same as “Sarah, Duchess of York”. Like they got a divorce from the total family. When the Queen dies and Prince Charles becomes king, he can decide if there will be any other changes.
