Valor

I had a dc on a lower Valor team for a year. The higher teams traveled for tournaments and played more tournaments even though we all paid the same fee. All our tournaments were local and they never won a tournament game. No fun was had.

Why would you want to travel to lose. All local sounds preferable.

Tournaments aren't included in your fee. Tournaments are extra so the higher teams paid more money for all those tournaments.

Then you don't play for Valor. Everyone complains about the"high" fee which includes 5 tournaments. If they played more than 5 tournaments they paid extra.

Correct. We played 5 tournaments and never paid extra. I guess some teams only played four? I don’t know. Two of the tournaments were out of town but still within the state. But honestly it’s not necessary to travel to go to appropriate tournaments at the younger ages. There are so many teams and tournaments. Valor seems to attract parents who really don’t mind throwing away money. We are not hurting for money, but I don’t need to spend it unnecessarily. Leaving Valor and looking forward to better coaching for less money and not traveling for mediocre tournaments just so they can have more social media posts.

Same amount of tournaments are included in your $3k fee for every team. Any team that plays additional tournaments paid extra, and those were agreed (and in our team's case) suggested by the parents.

Some other clubs do not include tournament costs into their club membership cost. That makes it look like they're a lot cheaper.

Some do include the tournament costs, and its still a lot cheaper

An extra $1000 per player above market at the younger ages is way more than Valor is spending on tournaments.

It's not even close to 1000 more. Valor has so many issues. But the cost is not drastically higher than other clubs in the area considering the winter indoor is included and the tournaments.

The thing I like about the way they do tournaments is you know up front what you are spending. There are no additional charges for tournament fees or coaches' travel costs or any of that. They debit our account based on the installment plan we chose (you can pay in full and save a little I think) and its done. We traveled twice this year, and both times it was a good experience for the everyone. I'm one who thinks team bonding happens at these "away" tournaments, and I think if the right event is chosen by the coach, any team will benefit from going out of town together for a weekend.
Also, we love our coach. My child is happy, the team is competitive and improved over the course of the year, and the parents are great. Before you ask, I have a 2011 player.

My son's team did nothing over the winter.

This does not accurately describe boys 2011--- you must have a girl.

Someone with more time than me once posted a list of local club feess compared to Valor (yes, including tournament fees) and Valor was *substantially* more expensive for the younger teams and lower level teams. The prices for Valor older ECNL-RL teams and other club older ECNL-RL teams were similar.

So their prices for U13 and up top teams are market rate. Everyone else is getting gouged. You might not mind paying more for less, and that's fine, but its a fact that they are overcharging for NCSL and parent coaching.

A kid can be on a 3rd team and below year after year and still be improving. Might just mean that they didn't improve at faster rate than others. All kids from same team receive the same training. Call it favorable growth spurts, luck, favoritism, level of focus or effort, but there is probably a reason why some kids move up while many don't.

Those teams get all the parent coaches and people who have never coached before
