| 8 year old DD needs an outfit for a wedding, but she won't wear dresses or anything very girly. Please help me with ideas! Bonus points if you can find items and provide links. Do I just get her a boys suit? Can I make a boys suit a little more feminine? |
| I'm sure you can rent a tuxedo (as for a ring bearer or junior usher). |

When is the wedding?
Would she wear something like this? http://www.gymboree.com/shop/dept_outfit.jsp?pick=NONE&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306289396&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446025183&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395917465&bmUID=kI6GHSh&productSizeSelected=0&fit_type= |
| Is she in the wedding party or a guest? |
| Even a great pair of tuxedo pants with dressy shoes and a blouse - then maybe a more feminine vest or piece of jewelry at the neck. |
|
She's a guest, not in the wedding. Formal wedding.
For the Gymboree PP (thanks for the link!), no, she wouldn't wear that. I like the idea of a tuxedo pant with a dressy shirt and a vest. Shoes will be another issue. |
| I don't know why any 8 yr old (boy or girl) needs to wear a suit to a wedding. I'd look for anything else (skinny pants, nice leggings, skirt/tights/booties) etc. Check out JCrew kids for ideas. |

Will she wear a suit? Is it about being comfortable, or about not liking girly clothes? I'd think a suit would be WAY more constrictive than a dress.
Otherwise, instead of a suit, I'd just look for black or grey pants, they could be from the boys section if you can't find them for girls. Then have her wear a nice sweater or dressy shirt with it. Take her shopping with you and find something appropriate. |

what about something like this instead of a vest - http://www.kidsformal.com/girls-velvet-jacket-p/825kck.htm
with "fancy pants" and a nice blouse |
|
This would be really cute with black skinny pants. She will be the chicest girl at the wedding.

OP here. I was thinking a suit would be best because she needs to dress up and won't wear a dress or anything really girly. She hates things like leggings, tights, skirts, dresses, and although I could probably force her to wear something more traditional, I don't really see the point. If I can find something she likes, that isn't too expensive, and that won't attract negative attention, I don't see why she needs to wear a dress. An 8 year old boy might get away with khakis and a buttondown, but I don't think that is dressy enough for a girl. |
OP again. LOVE this idea. Going to look on ebay for something similar (and cheaper)! Thanks, PP! |
Thanks, PP. Way to feminine for her, but I appreciate the effort! |
Is it a black tie event or a formal wedding? If it is a black tie - an 8 year old boy would not get away with khakis and a buttondown. If it is a formal event - he should wear a jacket and tie. |
| Look at the tuxedo rentals, OP. She doesn't need to me in the wedding party to wear a tux! |
