OMG. We found the Hayfield parent here.

FCPS gets paid tuition for every student they take out of county. Including TJ kids- their home county pays $12k plus bus fees to send their kids here. It is common knowledge.

And fyi- if you don’t change your residency with the DMV immediately- you are committing tax fraud for your car tax. Which is different in each county. And with FFX- they really hate that. They have a whole website for it.

https://www.fairfaxva.gov/government/commissioner-of-the-revenue/project-discovery

Also- if you didn’t do this within months of moving- they can put a lien on your car. Which from what I know- can be reported to your insurance company. Which raises your rates if you don’t pay up fast.

I really hope these parents sold their old homes, have leasing agreements with actual companies, and aren’t driving back home to Fredericksburg every night from hayfield. Fraud charges are terrible for security clearances and loan applications. Especially if there is a public record - which Fairfax times seems hellbent on reporting on. Having the kids names dragged through the mud is going to end up on the Google searches during college admissions- and any kind financial aid or background check.

This is terribly stupid on so many levels.
The car tax goes to where the car is domiciled. i.e., where is it parked most of the time (not including work) So, if Hayfraud parents continued to live in PWC, but sent kids to a fcps school, they should be fine for paying car tax in PWC, even if they gave a fake address to fcps. But, I agree w/others that they owe fcps back and current tuition. The tuition would seem to pile up every day they are enrolled.

The tuition has to be approved by the principal before the enrollment of the kid. But, if the rumors are correct- this never happened. So they should be paying tuition, but instead “claimed homelessness” or “moved.” If they did this, they also needed to change their registration to reflect their new address.

So there are two avenues of prosecution. They can be charged with residency fraud or tax fraud. If they live in PWC, and paid PWC, then it’s not tax fraud, but residency fraud. To which they owe $12k, prorated and probably with fines. If they do live here, they just need to pay car taxes and make sure all of their taxes are for here.

But here is the other kicker. If the principal was aware of this, and Reid knew too, it’s corruption.

All of it sucks, ftr.

And you know, this kid here got the Gatorade award even though his dad is pulling some crazy shenanigans.

Just an FYI…the current yearly tuition for out of county students is closer to $19,000

Well, it should be the next question for the principal, when do the tuition bills get approved and sent out? County legal bills are definitely going up b/c of this mess. This started last April if I recall.

Dear Hayfield Hawks Community,

Please see the message below that was shared with our football team community.

Dear Hayfield Hawks Football Team Parents,

In case you are not able to join us this evening, I am writing today to share news that I know will be disappointing to you and your student athlete. We have made the decision that our team will be withdrawing from the remainder of postseason play. This decision has not been made lightly, but is necessary to uphold the integrity of our athletic program.

Several text messages came to light last week that brought new concern to the initial investigation, have raised significant questions in my mind, and are not in alignment with our values and commitment when it comes to student-athlete transfers.

Your student athletes are talented and committed and that this decision is not a reflection on their hard work.

I shared with the students that this is really difficult, and I am feeling it too. This is hard, but I feel strongly that this is the right thing to do. I also shared that counseling is available for any student who would like to speak with someone for additional support.

Our Division leadership has developed a plan to ensure we are never in this situation again. As shared in an email yesterday, this will include “a comprehensive external, independent review of FCPS’ student-athlete transfer and eligibility practices across all sports and all high schools in the Division. There will also be a working group of FCPS coaches, principals, and key staff who are involved in the transfer process. This group will evaluate and review current practices related to transfer requests and verification of student residency. The external review findings will inform and guide the internal review.”

I know this is not the way that we wanted to end our season, but this is about more than a trophy or a state championship. Building character and sportsmanship is critical to education-based athletic programs.

I am proud of our team, and I am thankful to our Hayfield community for supporting our students in all their activities - from academics to fine arts to sports. We are stronger together and together, we will move forward in a direction that brings our focus and energy back to student success.

Thank you for being a part of our Hawk Family.

Sincerely,

Darin Thompson
Principal
Hayfield Secondary School

WHY is FVPS wasting taxpayer money on reviewing ALL sports and ALL high schools when this is clearly just a Hayfield/school board/Reid ethics issue?

They are wasting our taxpayer dollars

Their tuition should have been around $19,000.00 since they don't live in Fairfax County.

The parents owe it for this year and last year, around $40,000.00.

She is friendly with one of the Hayfield English teachers, who has a son on the team and seems to be fully supporting Coach O. Her Instagram and the people tagged in her posts seem to be just some random people with no actual connection to Hayfield but are all in for the team?? Very very shady.

Exactly this.

If the district can't manage a transparent investigation of a football transfer controversy, how can they possibly be trusted to handle something that really matters like boundary review?

Nope, take your great falls boundary nonsense to the boundary thread.

I agree. I am also concerned about bias in the boundary review process, and Reid has shown that she is biased and does what she wants when it suits her agenda.
Honestly, FFx is getting exactly what they voted for. You want progressive, you want woke, well this it. Just don’t F w/football. Ok, the agenda will press everywhere else.

I didn't vote for this. How do we undo this mess? What exactly do we need to do to get reasonable people into admin positions in FCPS (i.e., people who don't want to indoctrinate your kid into thinking they are racist and who don't call people racist who are just standing up for fairness)?

Well, if you voted the democrat sample ballpt, you did vote for this.

But that is another discussion thread

It’s actually his uncle who is the head coach, and this kid is already signed with Virginia Tech. His dad is an assistant coach and the head of school security. The new Coach brought a lot of his team/friends/family with him. Only the school Principal would have approved (and it seems welcomed) all of this.

If this letter as shared is exactly what Darin shared with the Hayfield community he should be fired immediately simply because no educator should be allowed to send an email that is riddled with that many typos, grammatical errors, etc.

He sent 2 emails. I got his first one to the school community, then Reid’s then his “correction” email.

So much blame to go around. And I fault the gross parents who went along with this fraud because they see their child as their meal ticket.
