Okay, laugh. Obese people always get slammed on this forum, so let's just get all the fat jokes out of the way, k?
Now, I'm 34, 5'7" and 250. I carry it well, no Jabba, but I'm obese. No getting around that, and I'm tired of it. I've been keeping a food journal for all of December, just to watch and see what I'm doing (wrong). I snack a LOT more than I thought I did. I'm going to try to cut back on that, but I work from home and have easy access to food all day, so that's a tricky one. I have a FitBit, and log 5000-6000 steps in an average day. I think just meeting a daily goal of 10,000 steps would start some sustainable weight loss. I have a history of anorexia that I have used as an excuse to stay fat ("If I diet at all, I'll take it too far" etc.) While there's some concern there, because the only way I know to lose weight is to starve and smoke, I don't think it's much more than a crutch right now. Thing is, I need some hand-holding when it comes to what, exactly, to eat and how, precisely, to workout every day. Everything I read is either "Paleo" or "Atkins" or some other faddish shit. Can someone just give me a daily plan that isn't extreme? I don't want to do crazy shakes or ridiculous WOD crossfit stuff. I want a lifestyle that will help me lose weight. Suggestions? |

Read Michael Pollan's books. But his basic premise is - (1) eat mostly plants (2) eat stuff that looks recognizable in nature. That will cut out a lot of processes junk. And (3) cook from scratch (not from a box or microwave)
As far as exercise, do something you like. Exercise to good music. Zumba is a lot of fun. |

PP again. One last thing. Don't start 1/1/15. It's an arbitrary day and number.
Why not start tomorrow? Or tonight? |
| Don't eat past 6 pm. Eat mostly protein in the morning and then don't eat again until noon. Exercise. That's all I got. Good luck op. |
| You need a dietician, and a personal trainer. Reading a damn book isnt going to help you. You need help from experts. You also need a therapist because you dont seem to be healthy or happy at any weight. You take it to the extreme. |
+1000 This will help you reach your goals |
| You can do it op!!! |

Best of luck OP. I am trying to do the same. I have dropped maybe 4-5 lbs in the last 30 days. However, 2 things have played a part in some setback. I fell sick and there is a lot of parties since last week till NYE.
Even then, I am watching portions and not being too much of a pig. It is easier to not give in to food during parties but harder when you are sick. Still, I am loading up on lots of vitamins and supplements and trying not to slide. You can do it. I have a word of advice. Do not tell other people and start tomorrow. I found that I had a few false starts before I settled in to a healthier diet. I have pledged to myself that I will start exercising when I lose 3 more pounds. And I know I will do that because it is a promise to myself. The nicest thing about losing these 5 pounds was that everything I wore looked much better. My face was leaner and not bloated and I looked much younger. My features were much defined. Keep rewarding yourself with pretty things - massage, lingerie, makeup etc...after each milestone and you will feel great. |

Hi OP,
I've lost a considerable amount of weight by following a primal diet (basically, no grains.) It's more complicated than that because it's a lifestyle, but the beauty is that you don't have to weigh every morsel. And you can have pork chops cooked in butter and still lose weight and get in shape. Primal is like a paleo diet, but not as hard because you can still have dairy and dark chocolate. One main goal is to get your brain to use fat, not carbs, for fuel. So the carbs you eat are from veggies, not from breads. You feel crummy for a few days (cargo-flu) while you adjust, then you feel great! That being said, I used it in conjunction with a food journal when I got my biggest results. The easiest website to navigate is marksdailyapple.com; just check it every day after 11am EST. He has a 7 day rotation (for instance, Fridays are readers' success stories, Sundays are the links to more info) |
| ^^ forgot to say the other nice thing about a primal lifestyle is the excersise is sustainable--it's not about running/jogging etc, it's mostly about walking long distances at a slow pace, and a little strength-training. |

Don't start on 1/1/15... Start on some other day.
Don't drink calories, eat them. Other than that, eat 1/2 as much of anything you would nornally eat. If too hungry, munch on celery or carrots. |

18:57 again to say two things, first, in my post, cargo-flu should be (omg the spell checker keeps changing it so I'll put spaces)
c a r b o - f l u (or carb-flu) and secondly, I'm really excited for you, OP! I'm also going to re-commit and soft-start on Monday, Dec. 29 (because I love starting things at the beginning of the week) and then fully commit on Jan 1. Sort of like getting a running start, LOL! Although just eating right and walking, no running here! |

Overweight ex-anorexic here. I am slowly returning to a healthy weight. Key things that are helping me:
1. Follow my plate by usda 2. Drink water 3. Start Sunday - not jan 1 4. No diets, calorie counting, etc 5. Do not buy a scale 6. Eat fruits and vegetables Good luck. |
| Start now. Why wait? Every morning is a new start. |
This worked for me too! And I feel so much better. I don't have all my other health issues I have when I'm eating grains. |
