Whether you like the RIO people or not, the elected officials cannot just ignore their constituents.

The RIO people don't want to move.
Lees Corner people don't want to move.
Many Fox Mill people do want to move.

Scenario B satisfies all these conditions and is also the least disruptive option.

RIO Karen has spoken!

So there is absolutely no one objecting to Scenario B?

Why are the opinions of the RIO people, the Lees Corner people and the Fox Mill people more important than the opinions of People Who Don't Want Option B?

Staying in Oakton means much longer bus rides, less sleep, reduced opportunities for extracurriculars, overall reduced quality of life for 4 years. Not to mention safety.. less than half the amount of time on otherwise dangerous roads means stastically my kids are much less likely to die or be injured! Shame on RIO, they are hurting their own kids.

Also seems the group consists of many folks who don't even have children in the school system , with the misguided perception it will greatly reduce property values. Based on what I've read at this point, seems like Skyview (eventually) will be just as "good" as Oakton if not better.

I know I'm not the only parent who feels this way. We need to do everything we can to get this message to the voting members. RIO doesn't represent our community or school, and they shouldn't be acting as such.

A lot of Franklin Farms wants Skyview. It’s only a handful of parents who are pushing for Oakton. Franklin Farm folks need to find their voice and stop being afraid of the neighborhood bullies.

You say that a lot, but in all of this time, you have not proven it. If you care, prove it to the board. No one is going to believe you just because you say it on repeat.

All the Centreville people who want to stay at Centreville HS rather than going much farther away don't want B for sure.

But those neighborhoods are less wealthy and less white, so their opinions count less.

The Cub Run families they are moving out of CHS in 2 will be unhappy as well.

Also seems really strange they opt for scenario 2 and do nothing about Oakton being over capacity during a boundary review specifically to address overcrowding.

Absolutely agree with this. No way Meren is going to let this happen to South Lakes. They added a few neighborhoods from Floris to Fox Mill, my bet is they keep Fox Mill at SLHS.

Did Meren attend the meeting?

I presume she had already reviewed scenarios before they were presented to the public.

She did. I spoke with her afterward. She said the school board did not see the maps until they became public and that Reid could have saved herself a lot of headaches by showing them the maps for five minutes so they could tell her all the things that would piss people off. So safe to say, she’s not pleased.

Thank you for sharing this. I think it’s bananas that they didn’t show the maps to principals or school board members or literally anyone who knows the communities. FF gets sliced up in crazy ways that make no sense.

This. It's not perfect by any means, but it'll likely be the path of least resistance.

Scenario 2 but maybe the can figure it out with unnecessary chopping up of neighborhoods like Fox Mill.

It seems like they are moving some Fox Mill neighborhoods to make way for Floris neighborhoods?

Agree. The neighborhoods being moved from Rocky Run+ Chantilly to Stone + Westfield in B are not going to be cool with that.

Part of the issue is way too many moving parts. For example: there is a need to fill Westfield. It is clear that Skyview will have an impact on this no matter which option is selected. So, there should be separate options on how to adjust from Chantilly or Centreville. Instead, we have musical chairs with elementary and middle schools included that have little to do with this need. The one thing that should be apparent is that it is ridiculous to move Lee's Corner to Westfield. Whether Crossfield goes to Skyview or stays at Oakton should have nothing to do with this decision.

In scenario 2, where they expand Westfield's bonudaries into Brookfield ES area, what is that little area that is carved out and "protected" still into Chantilly when the surrounding area gets moved?

I'm not Cub Run or Lee's Corner, but it is clear it makes more sense to send Cub Run to Westfield. Look at a map.

How is the school board to know if you don't voice your opinion?

Bull Run parents maybe but I can’t remember. We were all so focused on high schools.

Disagree. There are lots of suggested moves that make a lot less sense than this one. The logic behind moving lees corner is clear--kids have to be moved into Westfield from somewhere and Lees Corner is closer to Westfield than many other areas. That's the logic and it makes sense. Whether you like it or not is a different question.

Whether it makes sense or not, doesn't mean people want it to happen and now everyone knows FCPS will roll over for whoever makes the most noise.

The problem is that Meren is in the group of five board members who know Reid is in over her head and operationally incompetent. The other seven steer the ship and just let Reid commit one gaffe after another.

I guess if this blows up enough (remember they have a bunch of follow up boundary studies affecting other areas in the county under way now too) we could possibly see some School Board seats flip next year.
