No. In general do not expect clubs to teach individual moves or much on the technical side especially on top teams.

Practices may be more technical in their basic elements at a young age but to teach 10-15 kids technical moves means drills that require standing in line. This is bad for younger kids.

Coaches may provide "homework" for kids to do on their own to build up technical skills but individual skills training is best done individually.

BSC did it. Do not know if they still do. For the u- littles I remember most practices were like 40 minutes of skill work - drill work, no lines, every kid had a ball. The programs was following US soccer Player Development Module or something like that.

Yep some clubs do it right most do not. The clubs that tell their u9-u12 to drill outside of practice three days a week are wrong. Under u12 does not matter in term of winning, scoring, etc. Would you rather being playing at u16-u17 or win a lot of games at u11? u9-u12 should be about developing the most technical player you can. At u13 you can teach a technical player how to pass and move on a field with space.

At U13, McLean beat BRYC and tied VDA. VDA tied McLean and beat Richmond United, which beat BRYC. Loudoun has not played yet. As for DA clubs, FCV won 3 out of 3 and Arlington has one win and one tie. Metro United does not have U13 DA team listed on DA site, but their U14 team lost 3 out of 3 with 0 goals scored and 17 goals allowed.

Current U13 is not 08 so what do any of the above observations have to do with 08?

McLean 07 parent trying to stay relevant. No one watches that squad. Sorry.

DD's team is a possession team "in development." (Hey, they're 11.) McLean didn't overwhelm with size or speed; they didn't have to. They did it with execution, taking advantage of unforced errors and making the most from what DD's team gave them. 0-2 at the half … with a bobbled keeper save converted for a score and a untimely lapse by the two defenders. The final score isn't worth mentioning.

Watching the game in real-time, McLean appeared to have excellent, on-target one-touch passing and they used the flanks to either set up crosses into the middle or pass back to the top of the penalty box for a long, hard shot (nearly all went too high or wide). I'll have to watch the video replay to see if there was something else that McLean did extremely well. There may have been a total of four or five fouls committed by both teams, from inadvertent trips and a few offside calls. A little bit of physical play here and there, but nothing over the top. DD's coach isn't a screamer and the McLean sat for the entire game, with only a few instructions that I could hear.

I think it would be interesting to see this team go up against an equally-disciplined team, or a team with a little more size and speed.

Oh yeah, a fellow parent noted that at least one former SYA Red player (a neighbor) was now playing for McLean Green. There may have been more that made the same move, but he wasn't sure.

Thank you for noticing, Mclean 08 is one of the best teams in the area at least top 3. Im upset we are ranked so low but after Discovery Cup ranking should change.

Why are YOU upset about rankings? What do rankings do for you? Serious question.

McLean produces a lot of technical girls because they push technique at the younger ages. You can not control how big someone will grow or how fast/quick they will be but you can control how much time they spend on developing individual foot skills. This will lead to faster speed of play as the girls get older.

Oh, please come back next week and let us know what you think of SMS Fusion -- also undefeated in the division. From what I'm told, they are the opposite of McLean Green.

Yup. Can’t wait for these to to play against each other. SMS is a big/fast and kick/run type team compared to a McLean possession team. I expect McLean to win.

You should be a proud parent if your DD has put in a lot of practice which showed on the pitch. Congrats!

On the other hand, it would be very frustrating if your DD has put in a lot of practice and is the best player on the team but the majority of the other girls on the team have no skills/first touch and the team is at the bottom of the division.

There was a leper on the field before the game, and a girl from MYS 08 Green went up and touched him, and he was healed! It was amazing! One of the forwards from MYS 08 green was running towards goal , a defender got in her way, and the MYS girl actually levitated her in order to get by her and score. It would have been amazing, but this was an MYS 08 green girl, so it was really just something we have all come to expect. I am like so many people on this thread- I have no kid on the the MYS Green, after all, I am mortal- but I show up to all of their games and then race home to post about the miracles I have witnessed. Time alone will dictate to what heights this team's greatness will reach: I don't think we should rule them out for the Olympics- the men's olympics, and maybe this team should be allowed to compete in the men's world cup next time around, though in both cases I don't think it is very fair to the poor men. All I know for sure is that if I ever run for political office, I want to hire the MYS 08 Green organization- their propaganda is tremendous even if not based on reality.
