When do you think it will be safe? In two weeks? What do you imagine the parents do if you keep the kids at home? Federal government already opened for work. |
There are neighborhoods that still haven’t been plowed. The big trucks can’t fit down them and the ice is too hard for the smaller equipment. This stretch of cold after the storm had hampered clean up. |
What if the parent has to work full-time? I suspect many people don't mind schools being closed because they can stay home or work remotely. But not everyone is in the situation. |
Woods was open? They usually follow MCPS. |
Your street’s been plowed? What are you complaining about? |
Exactly, people are complaining now that they don’t want to pick up a shovel and dig out their cars when their street has already been plowed days ago. The helplessness is beyond anything I have ever seen. The only winter disaster here are the humans unable to remove a little snow and ice. |
Be nice to the “three days to dig out their car” poster. At least they eventually dug out it out, which beats many of the people in this thread. |

So you didn’t do any snow removal yourself and your car isn’t parked on the street? |
+1 |
Our car is parked in a narrow alley about 60 feet from the exit to the street. It took my husband and myself about three hours to make it passable including breaking the ice wall the plows left on the street. Then we spent about another hour the next day digging out the car. We worked with one metal garden shovel which was critical to break the ice and one plastic snow shovel. It was a good workout. We are 45. The neighbor, living a similar distance from the other end of the alley paid someone 200 bucks to do it with his mini bulldozer. All to say, it is doable if you want to get it done which is why I am really annoyed by people who did not bother cleaning their sidewalks forcing people to walk on the street. |
I agree. It is hard without the right tools. I was observing people trying to do it with the plastic snow shovels which are only useful once you have broken up the ice with a metal shovel. I can see how it would take them days to get anywhere. |
Get a babysitter! |
Are people really that foolish to not have a snow shovel with a metal blade? They might as well have no snow shovel at all. |
