| Sheridan closed Monday. |
Honestly, that makes zero sense. There are plenty of places that have cold winters. They don’t close for the entire season. There are ways of clearing roads even before the temps get warmer. |
Those places you speak of always have winters like this so they have the budget, equipment and staffing already in place. The DMV has been much more unpredictable and a lot of jurisdictions tried to save money by cutting back on snow removal. In MCPS it’s the building staff that has to clear sidewalks and such. It’s not like the county is coming in to clean for them. |
This area has enough cold weather that it’s inexcusable to be closed down for a week over 5” of snow and sleet. |
| I don’t think schools will be closed for a week. I think Tuesday is extremely likely for probably all schools and Wednesday will be more varied based on location and how much clearing has been done. |
| Keep in mind with the temps there could a lot of 2 hour delays even if they open for the day. |
Publics definitely. Our private doesn't follow DCPS, so I think we will be back earlier, maybe Thursday. |
Which school? |
| Maybe the better question is who and when will schools go virtual. Tuesday? Wednesday? |
Depends on each school’s remote learning plan. Norwood’s calls for remote learning for 3rd and up after the 3rd consecutive snow day. |
| Our DC private has said they won't go back to virtual in that sense. On the second snow day, older kids will be assigned work by 10am via their online learning platform. |
| Our school goes virtual on Wednesday (if it doesn't open). |
GDS allows for 2 snow days for the year. So if school is closed on Tuesday, it will go virtual starting on Wednesday. |
Sorry — I should have said that remote learning starts on the 3rd consecutive snow day. 3rd graders and up will get work assigned to them via the online platform. |
I wish our did it that way. Ours has the kids log on for 15 minutes, then log off for 50 minutes (to do work or something?). Then they have to log back on for the next class for 15 min. God bless parents of ADHD kids. Disaster. |
