I wouldn't say standard Catholic thought. A theme of his speech was the pervasiveness of disorder and chaos, including in the clerical ranks. Anti-clericalism does have a strong tradition in the Catholic Church, but I wouldn't call it standard. His theory is that IVF and abortion are the result of this pervasiveness of disorder (he did not say either itself was disordered). This theory is very much his own thought and is not standard Catholic thought. Not that it is in any way blasphemous or heretical. The same could be said about his thoughts on natural family planning. NFP is considered not contrary to Catholic teaching, not Catholic teaching itself so he is not a heretic for showing disdain for it. Again not standard Catholic thought. This is one line that came closest to questionable for an orthodox Catholic: "...when you embrace tradition, success, worldly and spiritual will follow." The intertwining of spiritual and worldly success is generally eschewed, but again the comment goes right up to the edge but not over it. |
I didn't hear him say that men should be free to choose to be homemakers just like women do, that this should be a choice any parent can make. Where did you hear that? |
LOLOLOLOLOL Are you saying you are quite relaxed about men in drag? Okay. Sure. |
What?? Are you some teenager just spouting off nonsense? What a ridiculous thing to say. |
DP. Mainstream American thought is that a woman’s life doesn’t truly begin until she has children? Interesting. What about a man’s life? When does that start to matter? How about people who can’t have children, or mothers who have lost their children? Their lives have no meaning? What about IVF, is it “mainstream American thought” that IVF is a consequence of disorder in society? |
Because he is sane and can appreciate what Butker is saying - that is, being a present parent is more important than anything for children. You don't have to have or want children of your own to recognize that truth. |
DP. Please get over yourself and your smug, self-appointed role here as the explainer of all things Catholic. No one cares. He wasn't using the word "vocation" as you are insisting. This is how he was using the word, and he applied it to both mothers AND fathers: "a summons or strong inclination to a particular state or course of action" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vocation |
Listened to the entire speech. Not edited clips. He spent most of the speech talking about men's duties at home. He didn't say they should be free to be homemakers. He said men not being involved in home life is causing social ills like a rise in violence. |
The dudes whole speech was about enforcing archaic gender norms. PP didn't say men can't wear feminine cut suits, but it's a glaringly obvious observation that if you look at his Instagram, his idea of "embracing your masculinity" isn't how most men would do so. |
| I think men are lost right now. Women have changed their roles in society and men have remained stagnant. They need to find a way to re-evaluate and grow. |
|
The same could be said about Harrison Butker. Why on earth is this a 30-page thread? |
I'm pretty sure it's actually the guns. |
Men are reevaluating their role. Hence why they have started to cross over into women’s sports. |
