I mean if you say so - it looks like a downgrade to me. There was something special about all those random figures with rows and rows of service medals.

I think it looks sad. This was her birthday and it should have been close friends and family by her side. I know that isn’t how it works but wouldn’t have been nice to put everyone out there to celebrate. Maybe start the event with the trimmed down crowd and end it with a big group.

The smaller family didn't bother me, but they all looked so sad, like they know it's the last time they will be together. Makes me wonder if the Queen has some medical issue besides the mobility stuff and being in her late 90s.

Late 90's is old as hell. So probably yes.

Something looks off with this picture. William and Kate appear to be twice the size of the other adults.

That's because they are. Charles was only 5'10 at his best but old people lose inches as they age. Also a reminder that the only ones left at an age lower than retirement are the Cambridges and kids younger than 8.

This is a very deliberately chosen photo/grouping representing the four generations/the Queen's direct descendants in line for the throne. It's possible Harry and Meghan would have been included if they hadn't made the decision to leave.

#1-5 next in line

You cannot trash your relatives in the worse way and expect to go on the balcony. I think everything this week almost communicated that everyone is done. The Queen loves Harry but she is not having the gossipy drama. Hopefully they get it and act better.

No one trashed their relatives. Don’t buy into the tabloid trash headlines and Piers Morgan ranting.

It's wild to me to lose so much height considering he has the best nutrition. Perhaps not enough exercise.

And unless you're only looking at direct heirs you're incorrect

Rod Stewart almost fell over.

Duran Duran - Simon sounding a little rough and that truly bizarre fashion show, but Notorious still rocks.

I love Alicia Keys but felt it was a little strange to include her. And Lin Manual Miranda, same.

The IMAX thing on Buckingham palace is cool. William made a nice speech.

Why do you think it’s strange? Maybe the Queen like Alicia Keys. It seems to me that they had a wide range of artists who would appeal to a diverse audience, and multiple artists who aren’t British.

I guess if I was planning this event I would have wanted an all British slate of performers or someone with a tie to the country. I think of Alicia Keys as American, a New Yorker. I'm always happy to see her perform I just thought it was a little out of place. Could've had Dua Lipa, Adele, Lily Allen, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, etc.

True, but Diana Ross and Andrea Bocelli were very much front and center, and those are just the performers that I recognize. And Adam Lambert — an American — songs with Queen. I can see wanting an all British or British and Commonwealth slate, though. And Adele would have been a great addition.

I'm looking at 'working' royals' which makes me correct.

Sir Elton John’s number “Your song” was perfect for Her Majesty.

Virtual Queen ?
The golden carriage had a virtual version of her younger self when she was crowned! Is growing old something to be ashamed about!

I think this is starting to get ridiculous. This is a religious event with her being made into a god.

Oh, Abba is not a British band, dancing queen song has nothing to do with her. Queen is not young and sweet only seventeen

I doubt they expected to be on the balcony. How exactly would that work for some non-working royals to be on the balcony but not Andrew? It would just draw attention to him.

They 100% expected to be on the balcony. When they didn't get to they threw a fit and left early.

Harry and Megan should have been on the balcony. Harry did not commit the atrocities that Andrew is accused of. And Harry served his country in Afghanistan. He actually was in a war zone.

Andrew served in a warzone too.

Flying a helicopter over a boat with no real threat is not comparable to wha Harry did.

She is the head of the English church.

This reveals an astonishing lack of understanding of the cultural, financial, historical, diplomatic and political importance of the British Royal Family.

Her Majesty is the first British monarch to serve for 70 years. Queen Elizabeth II is a beloved and respected figure around the globe for good reasons. She has played a critical role as symbolic head of state of Great Britain and many countries in the commonwealth for seven decades. She served in World War Two. She guided the transformation in early post British Empire years to the Commonwealth after many former British colonies gained independence in the mid twentieth century. She led modernization of the monarchy. She was the first British monarch to address US Congress in 1991, and her speech was a great success and recieved three standing ovations.

The Queen has brought a great deal of cultural stability to Great Britain by simply showing up in stable, unflappable and predictable ways for public service and charity work day in and day out.

The House of Windsor is worth $28 billion (19 billion pounds) and pumps in billions of dollars into the British economy.

She is not a God, but she is the sparkling but gritty jewel of the British Crown.

oh boy. So when she dies, Charles becomes head of the English Church. The irony!

It’s clear this child is not disciplined, and it’s ridiculous that so many people are all “oh he’s only 4!”. 4 year olds can be expected to behave much better than this in public. If this child was next to you on a plane or at an event doing this, you same people would be complaining left and right. It’s just because it’s one of the Cambridge kids that everyone is bending over backwards to excuse the behavior. If Archie had been photographed doing that, Piers Morgan and his ilk and many of the posters here would have broken the speed of light to condemn Meghan.

As far as the balcony, why would they have come if they were upset about it? It was announced far in advance that only working royals would be on the balcony. As far as their kids, I don’t blame them one bit for not bringing them out for pictures. What’s the good in it? If they do, people will say they are using them for this or at.

I thought they handled the entire situation well. If they hadn’t come, people would have come after them for or. So they came. Then people still came after them. People said they would do all that they could to draw attention to themselves. Instead they were low key and only went to the two things they absolutely had to. So then people said they were pouting.

I’m very curious to know what would have been the preferred thing for them to do by those that can’t stand them.

I actually liked what they did. They came as a family of four. Made their presence known but stayed largely invisible. Everyone knew where they were staying and they mingled with family that made an effort. Now if William didn't want to fly clear across the ocean to visit their new home that's one thing, but if he made no effort to see a child he has never met that was in the Queen's backyard that's something else entirely. His choice and the ball was in his court.

If they were so eager for the family to meet the kid why wait an entire year to take her to the UK for a visit?

William was kind of busy this weekend...there was this thing going on for his grandma's 70th year as Queen. He can hardly skip it because his brother wants attention.

Um...COVID? Two unvaccinated children under the age of 5 including a baby?
