If this child was next to you on a plane or at an event doing this, you same people would be complaining left and right. It’s just because it’s one of the Cambridge kids that everyone is bending over backwards to excuse the behavior. If Archie had been photographed doing that, Piers Morgan and his ilk and many of the posters here would have broken the speed of light to condemn Meghan.

As far as the balcony, why would they have come if they were upset about it? It was announced far in advance that only working royals would be on the balcony. As far as their kids, I don’t blame them one bit for not bringing them out for pictures. What’s the good in it? If they do, people will say they are using them for this or at.

I thought they handled the entire situation well. If they hadn’t come, people would have come after them for or. So they came. Then people still came after them. People said they would do all that they could to draw attention to themselves. Instead they were low key and only went to the two things they absolutely had to. So then people said they were pouting.

I’m very curious to know what would have been the preferred thing for them to do by those that can’t stand them.

I actually liked what they did. They came as a family of four. Made their presence known but stayed largely invisible. Everyone knew where they were staying and they mingled with family that made an effort. Now if William didn't want to fly clear across the ocean to visit their new home that's one thing, but if he made no effort to see a child he has never met that was in the Queen's backyard that's something else entirely. His choice and the ball was in his court.

If they were so eager for the family to meet the kid why wait an entire year to take her to the UK for a visit?

William was kind of busy this weekend...there was this thing going on for his grandma's 70th year as Queen. He can hardly skip it because his brother wants attention.

Um...COVID? Two unvaccinated children under the age of 5 including a baby?

Oh that's right. COVID didn't exist for this weekend so it wasn't an issue.

Btw, they flew private.

I wouldn't have flown with an infant under 1 during a pandemic. Babies get sturdier throughout their first year of life. Plus, the Queen has had COVID recently, so they don't need to worry (as much) about their unvaxxed kids giving it to her...we (non-royal) stayed away from several of our elderly loved ones over the last two years for fear of our unvaxxed kids giving them COVID. And flying private doesn't mean that you won't get COVID when you see all the other people at these events.

So why go now? COVID doesn't magical stop being a risk once the kid turns one. And as you mention the risk of seeing all these people at the events they went to and then bringing it to the unvaccinated kids.

The golden carriage had a virtual version of her younger self when she was crowned! Is growing old something to be ashamed about!

I think this is starting to get ridiculous. This is a religious event with her being made into a god.

Oh, Abba is not a British band, dancing queen song has nothing to do with her. Queen is not young and sweet only seventeen

This reveals an astonishing lack of understanding of the cultural, financial, historical, diplomatic and political importance of the British Royal Family.

Her Majesty is the first British monarch to serve for 70 years. Queen Elizabeth II is a beloved and respected figure around the globe for good reasons. She has played a critical role as symbolic head of state of Great Britain and many countries in the commonwealth for seven decades. She served in World War Two. She guided the transformation in early post British Empire years to the Commonwealth after many former British colonies gained independence in the mid twentieth century. She led modernization of the monarchy. She was the first British monarch to address US Congress in 1991, and her speech was a great success and recieved three standing ovations.

The Queen has brought a great deal of cultural stability to Great Britain by simply showing up in stable, unflappable and predictable ways for public service and charity work day in and day out.

The House of Windsor is worth $28 billion (19 billion pounds) and pumps in billions of dollars into the British economy.

She is not a God, but she is the sparkling but gritty jewel of the British Crown.

+1 thank you!

This was a celebration of her 70 years on the throne — from the images of her coronation until now.
The only one who has associated shame or religion with these images is you. These comments seem to be projecting all kinds of things that aren’t really about the Queen at all.

Like I said, babies get sturdier during their first year of life (you can see data that shows child mortality drop from 751 per 100,000 for infants to 35 per 100,000 for kids age 1-4). A
lot of pediatricians don't recommend travel for babies until they're more fully vaccinated, unless there is a very compelling reason, even absent COVID. But COVID hospitalizations have dropped now and quarantines and travel restrictions are less and people are travelling a lot more. It's not surprising that Meghan waited 1 year to take her baby abroad.

Part of the reason the House of Windsor is worth $28 billion is due to the legacy of colonialism. For example, the 106 carat Koh-i-noor diamond is the centerpiece of the British Royal family's crown jewels, but to many Indians, it's symbolic of colonial subjugation and exploitation. It was seized by the British East India company and presented to Queen Victoria despite being part of Indian cultural heritage for at least 500 years before that.

Not a fan of the Queen or the Cambridges, but the commentary on Louis is a bit harsh. I can easily imagine a normally well-behaved 4yo (or even older) getting sensory overload and acting out in a situation with big crowds, loud noises, etc. Will and Kate seem like decent parents, though nothing much beyond that.

I'm really hoping this is the last jubilee we have to endure. After the Queen dies, it will be time to abolish the monarchy and move on. Maybe throw some select Royals a "Thank you for your Service" party before throwing them out.

So she hasn't died and she's cut a lot of ribbons, all while using resources that are hers thanks to an accident of birth, and that counts as working and contributing to the economy.

Could you explain how a symbolic role is critical?

Endure?! Who forced you to watch or listen to any of it?

Hard to imagine Charles or William having a reign half as long. What’s the minimum number of years to get a Jubilee? I’d also be a bit surprised if there is still a BRF when George us on the throne.

This most likely will be the last big jubilee in our lifetimes. Paddington Bear said it best "thank you ma'am for your service".

If any monarch spends 70 years on the throne, I'm okay with giving them a big party to celebrate their reign. It was a nice way to thank her for everything, celebrate her and say goodbye. At least she got to see the thanks and celebrations.

I doubt Charles will have a jubilee. William *might* have a 25th jubilee (doesn't make sense to throw these big parties for anything less than 20 or 25 years). We most likely won't be alive when George takes the throne and who knows what the BRF will look like at that point.

I like the smaller balcony presence. There were way too many people on it before-lile the kids of the Queen's cousins.

I mean if you say so - it looks like a downgrade to me. There was something special about all those random figures with rows and rows of service medals.

Not one is smiling.

I’m not a big royals fan, but that had to have really emotional. It’s highly likely it is her last balcony appearance. The whole crowd was singing the anthem. I’m sure this moment wasn’t lost on them. Happily, in the video the queen looked like she really enjoyed it.
