I also used to enjoy the spectacle of the monarchy however I think this picture is a metaphor for what it’s become- an aging institution that will not survive when the queen is no longer with us.

Parading around and leaving horse sh*t behind everywhere they go.

Not much has changed in the past 500 years.

Yep. They've got problems and smiling like its the 1950s and nothing is wrong is not the way to go for royals.

Anyway Louis has been in a temper all morning. Ever since Charlotte hit him in the carriage.

And why does Kate just look over it?

Why wasn’t William on Elizabeth’s immediate left instead of Kate on the balcony? Symmetry lovers are scarred by this.

Yeah, it was strange. It looked like George paused for Louis to move over but when he didn't, his father nudged him over to where the Wessexs was standing and William followed him. I imagine Kate was tasked with minding Louis so that left them off-balance. He was constantly distracting the Queen which was funny to see but what can you do...

I'm happy to see that predictions of her demise were wrong.

This is good timing, as we really are finally coming out of the pandemic. It's time for celebration. And a farewell.

Weird how much distance between them, Catherine and William

Because their marriage is dryer than a desert.

I feel sorry for those kids being trotted out like trained ponies for these occasions.

*Solid* gold? No.

It's made of something PAINTED in gold leaf. I saw it on a school trip in the 1970s (I'm from the UK ) and touched it - just because there was a sign saying "don't touch"

😄😉

After Brexit, Andrew, and the poor treatment of Meghan in the media and subsequent revelations, the whole thing just seems so anti-modern.

I could use an innocent diversion, but unfortunately, this can't be it anymore.

PP here. Okay, I can get into the corgis.

Bless you the corgis and the corgis only we’re just what I needed tonight.

+1 precious!

Yes, but the other countries with functional royals are not as significant as Britain so people don't care as much. If France or Germany had working royals, I think they'd also get this kind of attention, but they don't. People just don't care that much when the monarchies in the Netherlands or Luxembourg get up to shenanigans. Spain is the probably the closest and they don't even come close to having the reach or influence of Britain.

But yes, all monarchies preen, it's pretty much their entire job.

Can't we stop raining on the parade? 70 years at a job is worth celebrating! You don't like it? Don't comment and don't watch! If American and don't care why are you posting?

Serious question but why do you Americans care about Royals and England? Do you have some sort of feelings because our founding fathers (and most of your heritage I suppose) came from there? I grew up in this country but never really understood why people care so much.
