DA vs ECNL vs everything else

Anonymous
Wins and loses sometimes is a reflection of development. Although, some people like to think it is never related.

People can argue this point all they want. However, if a club is not retaining its top talent, then the teams are weakening. If the teams are weakening, it causes more kids to leave. Next thing you know, you have teams full of utility players that cant compete.

Name that club.

I’m lost because I’ve seen the FCV rosters online and the roster for my DD’s Spirit team is on TeamSnap.

Same...I'm FCV and I've seen our rosters. Wonder which club the poster is speaking of. Maybe Arlington?

Are Spirit and FCV still participating in the U16 EDP league? Does Spirit even have enough to put together a U16 team?

Yes, and yes. For Spirit.

Yes, and yes. For Spirit.

For FCV, I assume so. The OP stated DA rosters, so I was responding to that. Not sure on EDP, but haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Why does this matter? This team success wins/losses is secondary but only primary by those who seem to suffer some type of confidence issues.

If you know your roster, fantastic, I’m glad that issue is resolved early for you.

I think you are mistaken with your analysis.

You may be misreading the tea leaves if you believe parents will blindly follow the piper off a cliff.

If you believe that wins/loses are secondary, then you must believe that development is primary. In my opinion, huge rosters don't develop players like maybe you think. In fact, I tend to believe it may be opposite. I also tend to believe that some parents are very concerned about this.

Truth is, there are many alternatives in the DMV. Sometimes, rival clubs don't have to recruit. Get my drift?

I'm sure I know parents who will blindly follow a piper off a cliff, I try to understand since there is always a reason players/parents do what they do, it can be convenience, comfort, BFFs, coaches promises, sales pitch for next year, being on a winning team, etc.. regardless of the potential for greener pastures, the potential reasons are varied and numerous.

However, if I feel that my child will continue to become a better soccer player, I may be good with the training and not the wins right now. I agree that development, players and results are not mutually exclusive.

But I also don't know the optimal roster size. If girls are injured or absent for a reason and they can't be adequately replaced by your subs in a roster of 15-16, the game results could suffer if that team were really dependent on that one player. So what does that prove, that those players aren't very versatile and the coaching can't compensate and was there really soccer development or just niche stuff going on.

I'm not that supportive of a 30 player roster, but perhaps over the course of a year, a coach can see things in a player that they didn't see before or that a player didn't have before. If that player si constantly player 18-30 year after year and isn't happy with that, then the market may self-correct for roster size.

FCV and Arlington rosters locked and loaded. Season starts in about a month. Process of elimination: Spirit

The reason Spirit parents consistently say we know Spirit is choosing development is because of club decisions we see happening. For example, 1. We have seen a team be clearly up and able to win, but Spirit put in subs that costs us a win. Or if it is an easy team, start with the subs, give them their fair share of 60+ minutes, when the top players could have beat that team.
2. Spirit at least last year did a lot of playing up, which maybe challenged the play ups, but they still weren't at that level, so that cost the team wins as well

We know that's why we had a lack luster record in some age groups, even though we know an age appropriate team could field competitive players.

We hear complaints from parents from another club that their kids see 10 minutes just often enough to get to 25%, and yes, that club wins more than we do.

Shucks, Internet fail. I don't know what that stutter was. I was going to say Spirit lost a good player to FCV, but that's hardly a crush where Spirit is losing all of its best players. And the reason is FCV has 7 roster spots its trying to fill. Spirit isn't doing that kind of recruiting at all.

And yet it picked up FCV players, BRYC players, McLean players, VDA players, etc.

Parents won't continue to stick around for that. A leap of faith in the 1st year wont continue for years to come. Dog whistles are being sounded but not heard.

Year after year? Spirit just finished year 1. What are you talking about?

And people say that no one will keep putting up with FCV's washboard approach to players, and yet, there's a fresh group of suckers every single year.

Arlington parent, truly curious: where are those rosters?

What makes you think Spirit doesn't have its rosters when Spirit parents just told you they do?

I just don't understand why anyone would really care about other clubs rosters. I don't even have the time or energy to know my own kids so soon team much less worry or be concerned about kids at another club.

Another Arlington parent here. Our roster is up on team snap. I think we are up to 16.

I'm surprised with all that stress, you find the time to come to a thread like this at all.

Thanx for sharing! Is that for your DA teams or the EDP team?
