Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Well, if they were attending Hayfield while
Living in PWC, they owe FCPS tuition.

We aren't hearing much from Hayfraud parents right now because they're busy scrambling to find a new school where they can declare their child homeless.

This is potentially tax fraud.

If those parents have not changed their pay stub addresses with their employers, this is tax fraud all the way.
How is that ? Va state taxes either way.

Yikes...the ignorance of some folks. The majority of FCPS funding comes from property taxes. That clear things up for you?
They are paying property taxes on any property they own as recorded in county deed books. Their pay stub has nothing to do with it. So you are apparently the ignorant one.

Car tax
Thats based on the address provided to the DMV when you register the car. Again, pay stub is irrelevant. Apparently, you don’t own a house or a car, or you would know this.

Honestly think Fairfax Times should be in line for some type of local Pulitzer award for their dogged investigative reporting. If they hadn't kept digging and refusing to let this story go - and if VHSL hadn't had similar courage to call BS and enact the 2-year ban - this whole saga would have been swept under rug by FCPS.

She claims she first saw the texts at the coaches meeting.

Hayfield then played Edison a few days later. That game
Should never have been allowed to

This is a misuse of taxpayer funds. The AD talked about how he loves money in his texts, so someone was dipping their hands into FCPS accounts.

The BOS should absolutely step in.

Read a few different comments on Twitter that essentially said that the AD resigned last week, told people that his has gotten a new job in a foreign country, and then they immediately got on a plane.

Fleeing the country? This is so wild!

This is not a rumor. FCPS gave a comment to a reporter last Friday that they approved his leave of absence for a “family opportunity overseas”.

Yes, very wild.

WTF.

If it comes out that he stole or missused money, this will not be a good look.

The coverup is always worse than the crime. And FCPS has been trying to cover this up for months.

Correction: Important Update Regarding Hayfield Hawks Football

November 25, 2024

Dear Hayfield Hawks Community,

Please see the message below that was shared with our football team community.

Dear Hayfield Hawks Football Team Parents,

In case you are not able to join us this evening, I am writing today to share news that I know will be disappointing to you and your student athlete. We have made the decision that our team will be withdrawing from the remainder of postseason play. This decision has not been made lightly, but is necessary to uphold the integrity of our athletic program.

Several text messages came to light last week that brought new concern to the initial investigation, have raised significant questions in my mind, and are not in alignment with our values and commitment when it comes to student-athlete transfers.

Your student athletes are talented and committed and that this decision is not a reflection on their hard work.

I shared with the students that this is really difficult, and I am feeling it too. This is hard, but I feel strongly that this is the right thing to do. I also shared that counseling is available for any student who would like to speak with someone for additional support.

Our Division leadership has developed a plan to ensure we are never in this situation again. As shared in an email yesterday, this will include “a comprehensive external, independent review of FCPS’ student-athlete transfer and eligibility practices across all sports and all high schools in the Division. There will also be a working group of FCPS coaches, principals, and key staff who are involved in the transfer process. This group will evaluate and review current practices related to transfer requests and verification of student residency. The external review findings will inform and guide the internal review.”

I know this is not the way that we wanted to end our season, but this is about more than a trophy or a state championship. Building character and sportsmanship is critical to education-based athletic programs.

I am proud of our team, and I am thankful to our Hayfield community for supporting our students in all their activities - from academics to fine arts to sports. We are stronger together and together, we will move forward in a direction that brings our focus and energy back to student success.

Thank you for being a part of our Hawk Family.

Sincerely,

Darin Thompson
Principal
Hayfield Secondary School

Honestly their only landing spot is another fraud school like Riverdale Baptist and at this point even RB is basically toxic. There are a couple other fraud "Christian" schools in MD where they can try to sneak their kids in, but not many.

Exactly this.

If the district can't manage a transparent investigation of a football transfer controversy, how can they possibly be trusted to handle something that really matters like boundary review?

If this letter as shared is exactly what Darin shared with the Hayfield community he should be fired immediately simply because no educator should be allowed to send an email that is riddled with that many typos, grammatical errors, etc.

A post from some else summarized it fairly well:

CliffsNotes version: coach with a history of breaking/bending rules and laws but wins a lot against subpar competition gets hired to coach at Hayfield (and somehow also is hired to be their chief of security). He violates countless public school regs, and possibly state and federal laws, to usher 31 transfers in the door. He also brings on coaches who, among other things, seem to enjoy giving drugs to/doing drugs with minors. Meanwhile Hayfield and FCPS administrators don't just turn a blind eye to all of this, they basically support it by trying to sweep it all under the rug. And, at the same time Hayfield supporters lob all kind of baseless accusations (including racism, unfounded claims of other programs cheating etc.) at those simply wanting the cheaters to get their just desserts. I am sure I missed a few things, but that's the shorthand version.

Reid also called the coaches who were complaining about Overton racist, but I don't know the full context of that. Does anyone? I also am not sure of Reid's motivation to take the side of Hayfield, but she has damaged trust irreparably by handling this so poorly.
