DA vs ECNL vs everything else

FCV boys teams were start ups. How is that going? FAIL

They had to recruit an entire team from Herndon just to get on the map.

McLean and Bethesda have just as many D1 comittments every year. Get off the FCV train. There are kids at other clubs that would smoke FCV kids. Recruiters know this.

I mean, a team full of D1 and YNT players got knocked out of the playoffs...right?

This is what’s funny - “I am not pro-FCV but...” more FCV promotion.

FCV club turnover in players is so high that they must be recruiting well more than developing players. By U14 or U15 there are maybe 4 girls from Elite that make it. The rest wash out. That’s poor coaching and development. Good recruiting. No thanks.

When do new DA rosters and schedules get posted on ussoccerda site?

In the past, those that washed out at FCV ECNL moved on to McLean ECNL. They became twice the player and secured a college comittment. Some of the comittments were higher level then the players on the team they washed out from. Interesting how that works.

Anyone who has been around the block can tell you. The player gets recruited, not the team.

Do yourself a favor, worry about your kids development and not your ego

I am a Spirit parent, but not one that has commented on this whole ticket debate. I'm not with Spirit to get the tickets and that wasn't a selling point, but we like having them and now attend games more although before we didn't. We don't attend them all, but the ones that have players my DD wants to see.

I thought long and hard about the whole comment that we are paying for them and realized that is incorrect.

1. It's actually free for them to give us tickets because they rent the facility at a flat rate. They aren't renting per seat, so whether or not we buy, it's a bulk thing they already have. Plus I said seat but in a packed game, these are on the hill spots, so again, available space.

2. I've worked a lot of different jobs, like bank teller, construction, sales. In all of those jobs, there are free giveaways that we don't charge customers back for. Like in my construction job, we've given away a free box of nails to a customer, free mud, when they need extra help to land a job, discounts.

Do we get something out of that? Sure, but not by hiking their price to pay for those items. We get it in customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Spirit is also not charging it back (as if it was a direct expense, which it's not). But they are offering a pro team link, so giving those tickets is part of that experience.

What I wonder is - in comparing the cost with FCV parents I know - why is FCV so much higher priced? If you're not "paying" for tickets, why the added cost?

But honestly I don't care over much. I just wanted to address the ridiculousness of that comment, because it's illogical. It's just some weak attempt to poke at Spirit.

+1. If you can see your DD or DS's development, stay where you are. But regardless of team record, if you can't - regardless of the minutes played - find somewhere else for them to play.

Do yourself a favor worry about your kids experience (are they happy / having fun), it's a game and their kids....

Also true. Both statements are correct and neither contradicts the other.

I heard FCV U19s lost 7 players. That's why they were looking at Spirit and BRYC for recruitment of replacements.

Anonymous wrote:You have to remember that FCV is about recruiting. Each age group has a parent or two whose job it is to recruit. They do this in exchange for extra control of the team and hopefully opportunities and primarily because they want their DDs team to win. It is not necessarily the team manager. Usually it’s the parent that coordinates side training, futsal, super Y etc. If those parents see a good player they talk to the parents about joining the club. It happened to us so I know this first hand. Those parents are on this board. They have a clear agenda and that is to recruit better players to come to FCV. The club focuses on development too but recruiting is just as important.

Best of luck to you all.

Very accurate. That is how it is done, and if they gain one player, they will use her to go recruit other teammates from her team they wanted.

So for female players who really want to go farther, by farther I mean aiming for pro, when and where do they get to say it's not just a game and while they are a kid, it's more than recreational (fun experience) mentality? If they dream bigger, developing well enough, and playing with impact and we keep repeating for DA (and ECNL) players, it's just a a game and they're are just kids when will our players who want more feel supported for more? Especially from a young age (u7-u13)

Where is the environment IRL (and online) that is going to be supportive of playing beyond the norm, rather than just a diversion or supplement? And if no outlet exists other than $$$ pay to play and the divisive politics of the leagues (and toxic parents of all kinds), what is my DD (or I) supposed to do, protest and not participate in development and play? It's a double edged sword, i'd like to not pay so much, i'd like to believe their exists a fair development path, but being the best takes $$$ resources (in almost everything) and no external agent is donating anything to make my kid better, where can we go for for a pro focused experience, that exists parallel to the individual training without the politics and toxicity from people who think they are just kids and it's just a game.

The problem for girls going pro is a lack of options. Even Spirit would tell you that they are not recruiting from their academy players for the pro team.

And don't misunderstand me. My DD is all about it and wants to go pro, but she will either have to go to college first or go to Europe.

Now, to be clear, she is at Spirit out of love for that pro connection, and she loves it. Plus, I would say we get a full year program, more than anything else we know of.

But let's not overstate it. For now, being at Spirit doesn't mean we have a pathway to the pros. Maybe one day soon...

That is still weeks away. Based on last year, maybe middle August?
