FCPS comprehensive boundary review

Anonymous
The Chantilly kids were much closer to Chantilly than Oakton. Any Langley kids moved to Herndon will live much closer to Herndon than Langley.

If you don't want more boundary changes, tell the BOS you'd be fine with a tax hike to service the debt so FCPS can expand more schools and do so more quickly.

We don't need expansion. Which schools are they planning to expand? Is Langley getting an expansion?

If it gets overcrowded, then do a boundary study in the traditional manner. This is not about crowding. I think you know that.

It’s the schools they aren’t expanding that create the enrollment pressure that could result in their moving kids into Langley and Langley kids into Herndon. Do you really not know that?

DP. If you’re going to argue numbers, you should have a good handle on the membership and projection numbers first, rather than pretending you are a know it all🧐

I can tell from your assertion that is not the case.

If Daddy Trump and his minions, SteveBannon and Stephen Miller, get their way, Herndon will have a ton of open seats in the near future.

Look at p. 101 of the adopted 2025-29 CIP and further take a look at the “Residential Development Applications Dashboard,” available at https://www.fcps.edu/facilities-planning-future/facilities-and-membership-dashboards

Right out of the gate, you’re basing your assertions on year old projections that were off significantly (shockingly many percentage points) on even the one year projections (September 2024).

To quote your earlier post, “do you really not know that?”

It’s the latest CIP, which has both historical data and the most robust set of FCPS projections. You just don’t like them or their implications.

Most robust set of FCPS projections may be true.

Robust they are not.

Herndon has a lot of open seats now and Langley has a lot of students who live closer to Herndon. Hence the daily angst from the Langley poster(s).

Herndon High has some, Herndon Middle, not so much.

Sure, let's talk about middle schools. Kilmer MS was at 121% capacity last year and projected at 123% in 2028, compared to Herndon MS at 89% in 2028. In addition, no pyramid is identified as potentially picking up more kids from future development, much of which isn't reflected in the CIP forecasts, than Marshall, and virtually all of that development would feed into Kilmer.

So they may consider moving part of Kilmer/Marshall to Cooper/Langley and part of Cooper/Langley to Herndon/Herndon.

Anyone on here from Marshall? Seems like gatehouse has your school in the boundary change crosshairs. Have any thoughts on that?

Two of our kids attended GCM. I think our community is more relaxed than some others. Also, nothing specific has been proposed yet.

Well, don’t get too relaxed. Apparently some of you might be moving schools.
