It needs to be Crossfield-Carson-Skyview OR Crossfield-Franklin-Oakton. PLEASE ALIGN MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO HIGH SCHOOLS.

That’s exactly what scenario 2 does to Oak Hill. Seems like an own goal to not have every kid at Skyview go to Carson.

Even better, every Carson kid go to Skyview.

100% this. Scenario 1 sends every Carson kid to Skyview EXCEPT Crossfield kids who go to Franklin. It's so dumb. We already go to Carson. Why move us if you're going to send us to the HS next door? Either Franklin-Oakton or Carson-Skyview. But definitely not Franklin-Skyview

That’s not true. FMES in scenario one goes to SLHS.

Crossfield should go to RC and Skyview.

I'm the person you're quoting. I'm fine with either option, but the middle schools need to be aligned. If they keep us at Oakton, then move us to Franklin. If they move us to Skyview, then keep us at Carson.

The Franklin Farms neighborhood that created the tree root website needs to just get over it. They are lucky they don't get redistricted to South Lakes. That neighborhood should be moved to Skyview, not moving Franklin Glen to Westfield - that is just ridiculous.

They can’t. The capacity at Carson is too big to align with Skyview. There are 1350 seats at Carson, which yields 2700 high school students. The capacity of Skyview is only 2000. The distribution of middle school seats is too imbalanced across the western high schools to establish straight feeders. It’s poor planning, but it is what it is.

You're wrong. In Scenario 1, every Carson kid PLUS one school from Franklin goes to Skyview.

I think you mean scenario 3 and something isn’t adding up. Carson at 89% is 1232 students. Skyview at 85% is 1709 students. This scenario is clearly built upon AAP transfers filling Carson seats. When AAP transfer go back to Franklin, this scenario no longer works. It is foolish to build scenarios that rely on AAP transfers when there’s a roadmap for AAP centers at all schools.

Franklin Glen is on to RIO’s tactics and they are not happy. They know it’s someone from Crossfield pulling strings with FCPS.

If you saw the meeting, you know these guys have no clue and haven't talked to anyone in any community. They like at blocks on a chart and that's it. You're giving rio too much credit

My suggestion, and I am not addressing the elementary school adjustments proposed by FCPS. They are whacky.

Skyview:
Coates
McNair
all of Floris
Crossfield minus Fox Mill Woods
Oak Hill

I realize much of Fox Mill wants Skyview, but I do not see Meren allowing that and it would reduce South Lakes too much.

Middle Schools
AAP in all middle schools would eliminate some of the imbalance.

Carson:
same as Skyview. Since Oak Hill already sends a lot of AAP kids there, it should not be overcrowded. Take out the AAP from Navy, Lees Corner, and Waples Mill(? does Waples Mill AAP go to Carson?) and this should allow for all of Oak Hill

Franklin:
Navy
Waples Mill
Lee's Corner

Questionable: should Fox Mill be sent to Hughes

I realize this takes kids across the street from Franklin to Carson, but, other than that, it would seem that all will be at the closest school--with the exception of Fox Mill which would remain at South Lakes. However, they are already assigned there and some of the neighborhood is just as close to South Lakes as Skyview.

Under no circumstance should Lee's Corner be sent to Westfield That is crazy. If Westfield needs more kids, then that area between Centreville/Walney Rd and 28 should go to Westfield and most of Bull Run. But, with the loss of Oak Hill, Chantilly should be fine without losing more students. Seems to me that the students should come from that area south of Westfield which would give it a more cohesive and contiguous student body.

No student should be going further away than currently.

Come on. Someone told them to create scenarios that don't involve Crossfield moving to Oakton, despite it being an obvious logical choice. To achieve that goal they had to come up with some crazy moves elsewhere and figure out who would backfill Westfield.

Neither neighborhood wants that. It also sends a large part of one neighborhood to an elementary school further away. Another neighborhood to a completely different middle school than everyone else at their elementary school. It moves students who live across the street from their high schools to schools that are 5 miles away with heavy traffic. There are multiple absurd problems with this scenario.

This is a complete failure on the part of FCPS. To hire consultants who didn’t even do basic research is a complete waste of everyone’s time, resources and sanity. Do better, FCPS. You’ve had over a year to figure it out and somehow it seems you’re 50 steps behind.

+100 but I think you mean Scenario 1? Because that’s exactly what is happening in Scenario 1.

SLHS already has 150 or so students pupil place out to AP schools, not including TJ. Half of the rising 9th grade class out of FMES opted in to Skyview. They can keep FMES at SLHS and will watch as the number of kids pupil placing for AP and AI/Robotics/Aeronautical Engineering increases. If people are pupil placing for AP at Herndon, what do you think happens when the closest school is Skyview? So sure, keep FMES at SLHS, a large number of the kids will pupil place for AP to Skyview. The school board can accept that now and move FMES to Skyview or they can deal with more students bleeding out of SLHS for AP.

And there are Herndon families asking on FB and in other forums why they were not included in the Skyview Boundary process. Some of those kids who attend Hughes for AAP are going to find their way to Skyview for the specialty programs instead of IB at SLHS.

Why should Herndon have been included? It is not overcrowded and most people in Herndon live much closer to Herndon High. In fact, I think they all live closer.
And, Skyview may have different career paths, but it is supposed to be a traditional high school.

Do you see the hypocrisy in your 2 statements?

It makes no sense in light of the new high school next door to Carson. If you go to Carson you should go to the high school next door, period. If you don't go there, you should go to the next closest one (South Lakes). Keeping Carson/Oakton is not going to happen.

Exactly. This is actually the root of all the problems. They have someone’s ear and are being protected from being forced to Skyview which causes chaos for everyone else. They are trying to move around everyone else now to fill Skyview since they are leaving Franklin Farm alone for now.

I don't think Herndon should have been included for the very reason that you mentioned. But Herndon parents are asking. Probably the same Herndon parents that pupil place into SLHS for IB. I don't buy for a second that the majority of the kids pupil placed into SLHS are interested in the IB program, if they were there would be a far higher percentage of kids earning the IB Diploma. Those Herndon kids pupil placing to SLHS are going to move to Skyview for the specialized programs.
