Stop asking this every week

So she doesn’t have to— 13 episode season. So two more to go. Season finale 8/14. It’s called Mayday according to IMDB. Hmmmm....

The pen was an interesting choice of (unrealistic) weapon, and clearly it was deliberately chosen to represent her lost rights (to read and write, for example). That part was a bit heavy handed IMO.

I think people are reading way too much into the pen. It was an available object.

The statue was an available object, and the thing that actually killed him. The pen scene was awesome but a bit ridiculous and contrived.

Fred is such a chump the whole thing was amazing. When she showed him the phone I wondered if she was “delivering” him but they played it so straight I wasn’t sure until the “just ahead” thing.

Christopher Meloni is amazing. I think it’s very difficult for an actor to make a character who has such a thin story and no redeeming qualities as three dimensional as he made that guy. Just superb acting. I read it the whole time as he is gay and trying to cover it up and I’m not even sure but even when he said “but my children” you could really believe it, like this guy is going to go down having never looked himself in the mirror. Amazing.

The Marthas. THE MARTHAS. That cleaning scene was great TV. Idk what was happening for the last few episodes but I am in again.

I agree that the cleaning scene was the best of the entire series.

The cleaning was great, and made up for the fact that it was completely unnecessary for the Martha to have recognized June from Chicago. That was so stupid.

It would have been better for her to have just rolled with it without knowing who June was because surely in her job she's seen terrible things and cleaned up blood from dead women, too.

She recognized June from the cages, locally. I assumed that the introduction meant that they will be in contact again. I don’t get why recognizing June was stupid- June saved her life.

Not so much that she recognized her but that the Martha was someone she knew as opposed to not knowing. It was a coincidence that didn't need to happen for the scene to work, and I think the scene would have been better without it.

I took that as a cliché good always beats evil narrative they needed to show

Think that it is less believable that the Marthas would take that huge risk without knowing that June wasn’t someone flaky. What if June was someone who would get the guilts and confess?

Totally agree. The scene was really working, but I got yanked out of it by the absurd coincidence.

I don’t know. June encounters a lot of Marthas and it’s not the first time she ran into someone who knew her at Jezebel’s. On a related note, Lawrence never said where the Marthas saved from the cages were destined for- I wonder if they’re all at Jezebel’s.

They witnessed June’s argument with Lawrence at the cages. She definitely presented as someone that they could trust.

Yup. You don't cover up the death of one of the top Gilead elites for just some rando handmaid who snapped and killed a guy during sex. But you will for a handmaid with influence.

I think they stick their necks out less because June was an influential handmaid’s than that they knew she would take risks for them and other women in trouble.

^ even after that dynamite of an episode, season 3 struggles to captivate us. The debate above is so lame compared to s2 even.

June is a less sympathetic character this season. She cost two women their lives without good cause.
