Interesting discussion and comments in Bethesda Beat. |
| $2 million to help shore up Dawsons. Wow. That could have been used for the schools and made a huge impact. Instead, they shore up Dawson’s for 5 years and then it closes anyway (most likely). |
+1 exactly! Waste of my tax dollars. |

I emailed the Mayor and Mark Pierzchala. Got a response back:
---------------------------------------------------- At the meeting last night, the Mayor and Council approved the creation of a stakeholder workgroup that will look at other possible options to address concerns expressed related to addressing school capacity and continued growth and development. The workgroup will make a presentation and provide recommendations to the Mayor and Council at the January 14 meeting. If you did not attend the meeting last night and would like to view the discussion, it will be available on the website at http://www.rockvillemd.gov/agendacenter later today. The City’s Planning Commission will also consider this matter in early January. Additionally, a Mayor and Council public hearing has been scheduled for the meeting on January 14, 2018. Individuals who wish to speak at the public hearing can reserve a slot by calling the Office of the City Clerk/Director of Council Operations at 240-314-8280. The Mayor and Council added a January 28, 2018 meeting, and are scheduled to vote on this issue at that time. ------------------------------------------------------ Please keep up the pressure on the Mayor and Mark Pierzchala, and the rest of the City Council. |
And Hogan withheld some of the CIP funding from MoCo. And the Kirwan Commission recommends more funding for the poorer areas, and that's not Rockville. |
Does the $2 million come entirely from the City of Rockville funds, or is Montgomery County also chipping in? My guess is it is only from the City. Why in the world is the city giving Dawson’s $2 million. It’s not like they are offering up high paying jobs for city residents. Put in an Aldi or Trader Joe’s and it will fund itself. |
How is the City giving Dawson's $2 million? They are funding $2 million over 5 years in the form of grants and loans to Town Center businesses. Dawson's has applied for funds and I am sure they will get some, but they are certainly not getting the entire $2 million. |
You realize how our schools are funded, right? It's not through the City of Rockville. |
And the county is looking after residents by having a 120% threshold? I think the county should stop all building anywhere zoned for RM so that the city of Rockville can build more in the town center. Problem solved. No need to raise the TC to 150% now. |
If I am right then entire area of RM is under permit of City. |
Not according to the article. Even if you are right, what does it matter? If 110 is what people want for the city then 110 is what the county should also do “for its citizens”. |
Are you sure Dawson’s is not getting the full $million? It says that Dawsons’ is getting $2 million over the next five years through REDI. It does not say anything about other businessesz I agree with the poster who comments that they need to do something about the parking and about homelessness in that area. And, definitely address safety. There have been quite a few incidents in that area. |
Some anonymous guy in the comments section of the Bethesda Beat said Dawson's is getting 2 million. Doesn't mean that's correct. Here's the link to an article with accurate info about the funds. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/government/rockville-officials-approve-fund-to-help-struggling-businesses-in-town-center-and-twinbrook-metro-districts/ |
Mark Pierzchala needs to go. Mayor and Council elections in Rockville are November 2019. |
Seriously. Is he getting some kickbacks from developers? His comments that his daughter survived the portables, so all kids can, is tone deaf and obnoxious. It’s not just about the portables. What a tool. |
