Really, how can you lose what you never had.

Really, our American soldiers routinely rape children? Give me a break.

You could. Current government prosecuted our military for lesser thing, so at this point our soldiers have to think twice before they risks their careers.

This is going to end up being another State Department directive thing. The military fights the war but State provides all the 'cultural partnership' guidance. This fiasco comes down to a handful of lawyers and State. I think what people don't understand is that military personnel reported this stuff over and over again out there. Its what was done with those reports thats the problem. Meanwhile, Afghanistan is falling to shreds. What a mess.

And at what point is your career worth your soul?

Soldiers should think twice before violating the UCMJ.

Of course they should. But there are grey areas in every progression where common sense should prevail. Humans are not robots. Steve gates may be working on creating the perfect teacher etc. But none of us are there yet, thank god.

What I find most interesting is that there are TONS of private corporations that will hire him in a second for his moral integrity, while the US government considers him unfit to serve.

That should tell you something right there about government.

That the military has higher standards?

In a way it does, and in a way it doesn't. Have you ever heard of the difference between the letter and the spirit of the law? You decide.
