Heads should roll on this horrendous issue

I was the PP that raised Bush. I totally agree this is 100% Obama what happened now. Bush started this whole mess. I blame both of them.

And having fucked up Afghanistan and Iraq, there are those who want us to take military action against Iran!

Dont kid yourself, this is not about the front lines this is about the people in command. Look what happened to the few brave people spoke out.

Really, how can you lose what you never had.

Freedom of speech, religion, press, etc.? Means nothing to you?

Apples and oranges. You mentioned moral high ground in the context of a thread on child sex abuse and then retort with a list of constitutional rights. I could barely keep down my breakfast as I read the Time article today but to think that the US can fix this is totally naive. What do we do, point the Afgans to the shining example in our country where kids are never sexually abused (nope); promise to cut off all military and financial aid unless it stops (nope bc even if the Afgan leadership agrees to those terms they could not enforce it); pull out our troops and abandon the country all together (hello Taliban).

Some things going on really are just wrong, and not just 'different.' There are serious pathologies with deep roots in some other cultures and I think the resulting society full of traumatized people really shows.

Because of how close and mobile the world is now, it is my opinion that the world has to confront and address these behaviors authoritatively and not in a morally relativistic way. Right now Afghans are flooding into Europe. Does Germany, for example, really know they are likely bringing in a plague of pedophiles? Think not.

I'm astounded that another PP compared this shit to circumcision.

I typed Afghanistan boy and a search suggestion was Afghanistan pederasty. There was a report 5 years ago http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/brinkley/article/Afghanistan-s-dirty-little-secret-3176762.php . What type of problems have we all brought into our own countries?

Australia has one ped that they couldn't send back to afghanistan due to permanent protection. http://www.examiner.com/article/australia-afghan-sex-offender-set-free-due-to-cultural-differences .

Yes, the President is 100% responsible. He personally developed the US policy in place since we invaded Afghanistan. Then he personally directed that this person be discharged. Obama should order that we eradicate an abhorrent cultural norm by executing Afghans who are not enemy combatants and over whom we hsve no jurisdiction or other legal authority. This is after all principally a tribal nation. Should we reoccupy this hellhole with 200,000 troops, regardless of cost in terms of lives and treasure, to make some futile attempt to stop this? Where do we draw the line? Hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed by US in Iraq, either directly during the Iraq War or as the result of sanctions. Where was your outrage? Millions have been killed or displaced in Syria. Should the US take in the refugees? US drone strikes are killing innocent people in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen and other countries. Is this keeping you up at night? Gangs are terrorizing populations and killing innocents in Mexico, El Savador and elsewhere. Does that warrant our concern and intervention? The world is a pretty shitty place. Get used to it.

Totally irrelevant in this case. These female cadets were not children, they were drunk college students. And they weren't exactly chained to beds.

Child sex abuse is not a part of our culture, and we prosecute when we discover it.

Its sad, but I agree with this - this is a practice that the Afgans need to handle themselves.

My goodness! WTF is wrong with you? You are a sick, depraved person to equate a medical hygene procedure to sanctioned brutal rape of children!

As a military spouse I've heard many jokes about this over the years. Jokes aka black humor because it's how my husband and his friends deal with their experiences and keep their emotions in check.

And slam fox news as much as you want dcum, but they have been reporting on this stuff for a while. It shouldn't take an NYT article to get you outraged, even if you hate fox.

I'm a conservative and I didn't even believe the reports. I don't read Fox. It all seems overhyped on their site. But truthfully I never believed things people said about pedastry in the middle east. I figured it was white racists who were saying it.

What started this whole mess is that it's culturally acceptable for Islam to rape little children. During Bush's terms, leadership on base could shut it down. Now that's not the case. This Marine being punished showed Islam we condone the practice and showed our military preventing it will kill their career. And you wonder why 1/3 of this nation think Obama is Muslim? Who condones this practice? I don't think Bush would condone priests and little boys either.
