Heads should roll on this horrendous issue

I'm glad this is finally getting widespread publicity. Anyone associated with the military over the past 14 years knows of this, especially those who deployed to the region. As a military spouse I've heard many jokes about this over the years. Jokes aka black humor because it's how my husband and his friends deal with their experiences and keep their emotions in check.

I truthfully thought this was a stereotype about Afghanistan. This story frightens me. I always thought if it was on Fox News it must not be true.

I am so damned fatigued and fed up with having the US constantly trying to play the world's policeman. It's the one thing that I actually agree with Rand Paul on.

Yes, bad things happen, and yes, we need to maintain our moral high ground - BUT - we have enough issues that we need to fix right here at home, we should be focusing on getting our own shit in order before going around presuming to tell everyone else what to do.

Them Bastards. Who would do that??

It's been going on for 1000 years in Afghanistan. Apparently by your rationale, that means Bush and everyone else was also "covering up sex crimes."

Some shit is unacceptable. That article reveals disgusting cultural practices. I read a comment on the NY Times blaming the US for this since Afgn has such a history of strife/wars. Immolation, sati, suicide bombs. We hate Paterno and would have hoped Mike McQueary had intervened on the spot with Sandusky. Thank goodness our illegal immigration problems are with normal people like Mexicans, Salvadorans, etc.

Afghan military systematically sexually abusing boys and our army is supposed to keep quiet! Oh god-do we let these people in the US? Self-immolation,suicide bombing.

Like we refuse to let the Pope into this country?

Bush exacerbated the problem. It was actually being curbed under the Taliban. I blame Bush for the whole mess in this region too. I don't know how he sleeps at night. Obama administration is without blame for allowing this to continue.

For these sex abuses to occur on American military bases (if the picture of a boy being chained to a bed does not pain you you must be made of stone), and to be condoned under the Bush and now the Obama administration is reprehensible. And to punish brave soldiers willing to actually speak out against it is morally wrong. Once we step foot in there we are now part of this mess.

Another reason why women should serve on the front lines: we wouldn't put up with this for a second.

Well, we mutilate newborn boys' penises, so I don't think we have the moral high ground.

I'm kind of relieved reading these posts that Americans still have the capacity to be morally outraged. Haven't heard much about human rights in -oh- this past decade.

Some things going on really are just wrong, and not just 'different.' There are serious pathologies with deep roots in some other cultures and I think the resulting society full of traumatized people really shows.

Because of how close and mobile the world is now, it is my opinion that the world has to confront and address these behaviors authoritatively and not in a morally relativistic way. Right now Afghans are flooding into Europe. Does Germany, for example, really know they are likely bringing in a plague of pedophiles? Think not.

Well we don't chain them to beds and rape them and then force them to dance for men's entertainment.

Circumcision (the merits debated upon) is very different from this repugnant evil.

For those bringing in Bush, the issue is that the Marine was dishonorably discharged. That is 100% Obama

Really, how can you lose what you never had.
