A flag is easy. Racism, not so much.

As you have written that...it was absolutely true on a large scale in 1933, today it is nonsense.

I see it happen daily. I've done it myself, sadly.

When the Dantes get an interview as often as the Davids, with identical resumes, then I'll think we've made some progress.

What you illustrated, a person reacting to such a name could certainly be guilty of a racial assumption therefore an example of racial exclusion and even racism, but it does not rise up to meet the standards of systemic racism.

Racism exists...no doubt about it...when words like systemic, pervades, every aspect...are used one has to be able to support that and it is a BIG, and I believe impossible, task to do so. Let's take one aspect of what would be included in a definition of systemic racism...politics. In the 113th Congress we have 43 members of the House, one in the Senate and one in the White House who are black. In the 91st Congress there were a total of 10. Interestingly enough I recently saw where a black woman was elected as mayor of a major US city in the south. The black population there is about the average for the nation.

Talk about racism in realistic terms. It is more of a part of our life today than I would have thought it would be when I saw LBJ sign the bill on tv...it was systemic then...but doesn't meet the criteria today.

Education and the criminal justice system.
Those are the two areas that have SERIOUS systemic racism wrinkles that need to be ironed out.

And they both significantly impact life-long employment and the ability to create wealth.

Still, personal choices remain and will always remain the most significant impact on everyone's life.

Exactly!
Because if a black dude makes the personal choice to put on a hoodie before walking to CVS to pick up his prescription one night and then makes the personal choice to stand outside and finish smoking his cigarette before going in it could significantly impact his life.
Some cops driving past may see him and automatically suspect he's up to no good and subsequently they may pull up to him and ask what he's doing there and request he provide some identification and tell him to move along and he may be offended and question their reason for harassing him or he may ignore their instructions and go inside the store anyway because he needs his prescription and BAM!!
Possibility of either a dead black dude or a black dude under arrest all because of his personal choice to wear that hoodie and smoke that cigarette.

Forget that. What about all those children who made the personal choice to be born into poverty or to parents who didn't know how to parent. Those babies are the worst decision makers ever.

Oh and let's not forget the hundreds of black motorists pulled over every day because they made the personal choice to...well...to be driving while black. I mean their lives can get totally turned upside down because they chose forgo public transportation and instead got behind the wheel of a car with their suspicious dark complexion.

I was one of those...it was terrible given there was no section 8 and limited to no assistance available...Dad worked hard and long hours...we got by...not enough for college...but it's all good now and the next generation is exceeding the prior. And of course who my parents were wasn't my choice...nor is it for anyone else but for most...rich, poor or in between...it's all about what you do with your life...for some...their limitations are beyond their own ability to overcome.

Guess you didn't read that link. Doesn't show a lot of support for banning the US flag.

Professors. Your liberal elites. Normal people? No

Unless you're a State or Government entity you can keep your precious flag. No one cares how you decorate your trailer.

Lol- i don't like in a trailer but your prejudice is noted.

I love black folks, I love my country and I love my flags. Save your sanctimonious bs for someone else.

Interesting that all your ire is directed at the workers and not the folks that exploit them. Most of the illegal workers were paid less than the minimum wage. Yet according to your logic, the folks in Alabama are lazy bums because they won't work for those same wages.

Take this to the next level. It's government that is allowing these people into the country illegally and ignoring the fact that they are essentially employed as slave labor.

That's why conservatives want to crack down on illegals, not because they are 'racist'. Wake up.

If you love black folks and love your country then you don't understand your flags. There's no two ways about it.

+1 and I doubt the ''black folks'' he says he loves would understand, and hopefully not tolerate, him having an emblem that they would see as a symbol of slavery and racism.
